Re: Rum Yeasts

Read a topic online a while back about fleischmann's yeast. Seems it is grown in molasses . I've read that also and that is what I've always used for the past 10 years as well as my father that has gotten me in this great hobby but figured time to mix things up a bit and see what these different ye...

Re: Chiller options

For the most part there is not that much fiddling as once plates are stacked is only time I really adjust deflag...and at the tails to run fast and hard to collect just always worried about running the well going dry and the water in the drum gets too hot and doesn't seem to knock down all vapors so...

Re: Chiller options

Is the chiller a refrigeration system? Is there a water reservoir inside the chiller? Or, it is only a heat exchanger with a fan? Regardless, a secondary heat exchanger in your closed loop system will help dump waste heat out of the system. How effective depends on a few things, like coolant system...

Laws concerning stilling.. I am aware that in some places distilling spirits is against the law and cause for paranoia / precautions. I personally live in Canada. From what ive researched, there is no law in Canada preventing you to make your own spirit, falls under the same law as the beer, wine m...

Re: Kick My Ass

Just glad I do a cleaning before each run I'm not sure what you mean by cleaning every run. I think of cleaning as scrubbing by hand followed by a vinegar/ water run followed by a water run then a sacrificial run. I only clean if I find a problem, doing too much cleaning can remove the protective p...

SpiritRunDave turned me on to the best ferment deal I have found so far . Line a large ferment container with a clear industrial strength garbage bag . Wrap and tape the mouth of the bag to a hose that is looped with a low spot . Co will migrate to the low spot during ferment and will not allow nas...
