OK. Refering to your post in the Welcome Center: You got a point and I have sufficient sense of humor. But have you? Indeed: the Welcome Center is not the appropriate place for a discussion, but on my most recent posts I was just reacting to the welcomes and advices I got. Apparently you reacted on...

Agree with your two points crow however locking the thread is being a bit trigger happy IMO If folks are to organize a one day to suit all there needs to be a thread for that so why not use this one? The mere mention and opinions on Woodsheds exit from the site is not a reason for locking a thread....

Re: Sour smell
You can get a lacto infection that will make it smell sour, for now I wouldn't worry about it too much, if it is there it is there and you can't get it out. It may go away in a few days, it may stay till you run it. I see people actually infect their ferments on purpose, I reckon just go with it and...

Re: Watching water boil
I never relax my vigilance . From the time the fire is lit until I shut it off I sweep all joints with a mirror for leaks every 15 minutes or so .Be it a 3 hour strip run or 10 hours on a spirit run . That Bastard Murphy haunts every still house and waits to ambush you . He's just that kind of a pr...

Re: Watching water boil
I had a main boiler gasket go south once. In an INSTANT there was flying hot wash everywhere. Honestly. One moment all is groovy, the very next steam, wash and all is flying across the garage. I still don't know how I got it shut off without getting burned or having a flash fire and I was sitting 4...

Re: Watching water boil
If a still is going to go boom, how much warning do you think you might have? Do you think a person hears the gunshot that explodes their head like a watermelon...??? Do you really want to try it to find out...??? Some things are better left a mystery, eh...??? I think in some ways this is why I as...

An easy way to see it done is to lengthen the out put tube and then cut a couple of holes in a bit of hose and ram it through then tape it up :) You aren't suggesting a PVC hose and some tape as a fix, are you..??? Here is what i use as a aftercooler for a LM solution: http://homedistiller.org/foru...

Re: how to handle back pressure
That sounds like a real problem, what do you have bolted on top of it? Is the column (?) clear? Is it packed? Is the packing to tight? Do you have anything else that could be restricting vapour flow? You really do need to help us help you because this can be a very serious problem.

Hmm, Chinese are allowed to drink Scotch are they not?rad14701 wrote:The Chinese are drinking up all of our Scotch...!!!
That statement seemed akin to saying "The Chinese are breathing all of our air."
Rule 7 I believe, if this was going to go any further would be in direct contradiction?

Re: Ongoing Banana Madness
Has anyone bothered to check what sort of acetates/aldehyde’s/ketones? make a banana taste like a banana, then see what the boiling points are? It may be that when we distil them we do not boil those particular 'congeners' or it may be that they are destroyed in the process or something? I have run ...
