Re: First sugar wash
Thanks so I need to order some of this potassium chloride? Do a Youtube search for “how to use a pH meter”. Save us the need to spoon feed you. Sorry I'm old school I guess and thought forums are for activity. Pretty much everything is already on forums. They might as well just turn off posts. I'm ...

Re: First sugar wash
...What ph strips do you recommend? Well obviously you need strips to cover pH 3-7 for the ferment. If you're checking the water only, then pH 4-9 would be OK. If you want some degree of measurement for both, then you'll need something for the range pH 3-9. But know that the degree of accuracy on t...

I don't see any listed on their test charts.Pesty wrote:.
The only real concern for tap water is if your municipality uses chloramine as it can cause some yeast to give off a medical band aid taste. Its easy to remove with campden tablets from the bew shop.

Re: Using filtered tap water
I am on a well with hard water and have a filtration system to soften the water. I have no chlorine in my water so can’t respond to your filters as I am not sure if you are on a city water system with additives or not but I do not buy water for distilling. Your filters should have some type of spec...

Something I learned from the video is that great value water ph varies greatly in different areas. Different people get very different levels from the same stuff and apparently it's regional.

Re: First sugar wash
I figured a sugar wash would be simpler and more fool proof than the bird watchers. No? Birdwatchers tomatoe paste would also be my recommendation . Its simple , cheap and works . I am concerned that you are using distilled water . That could let you down . Now I’m not in the pH bashing club club b...

Re: First sugar wash
Thanks for the info, I've been reading off and on fit a few years but I have problems remembering. I'm more of a hands on learner. I have already done a vinegar run and this will be my sacrificial run. I figured a sugar wash would be simpler and more fool proof than the bird watchers. No?

I'm ready to start my first sugar wash. I bought5gallons of great value distilled water, fleishmanns instant active dry yeast, yeast nutrient, 16quart stew pot, 5gallon bucket with twist on gamma lid and3 piece airlock. I guess I need some hand holding here on my first try. I'm apprehensive...I'm go...

Re: Tig welded keg with some rust?
This is a follow up....I got another keg and had another friend tig it and I've still got a little rust on the inside of one of the welds. He purged with argon. There bottom drain weld looks fine but the side weld for the heater element has a little rust. I'm gonna try some lemon juice on it. I'll u...

Re: Tig welded keg with some rust?
It was welded with 316 rod he thinks. Gotta wait to see his son that tigged it and ask him. We tried a magnet on the rod he used and it won't stick at all...haven't tried the keg yet. What do I do? Grind the bungs off and take it to a welding shop?

Tig welded keg with some rust?
Well I finally completed my electric keg setup and boiled some water, drained water and a few days later I shine a light in the keg and there's a little rust around the bottom drain and side element hole where they're burned through a little from the tig. Is that ok and common? I didn't think this s...

Originally planned on it but don't want wires outside the box. The 2 little terminals are on the top edge of the fan.skow69 wrote:You don't want to mount the fan on the outside?

Re: 10,000w SCR vs SSR
I wasted money when I bought the 10-4 wire since I later decided to order a 240 fan instead of 120. What should I do with white wire coming from wall? Nothing I suppose. My 10-3 from box to the twist lock plug has black, white, and green. I black taped the white wire, which Will go to one of the hot...

Double check mine too please. 240v gonna be using 10-3 plus ground. Just ordered 230 fan to add. I'm gonna wire it to come on when plugged up whether the switch is on or not. I got my 3/4" wire glands today but can't find my 1 1/8" hole saw bit so I can't run my main wires into the box til...
