Re: Any use for the wash after distillation?

im lucky ive got a rodding point for the drain next to where i distill so i just remove the cover put the lease and backset straight down the rodding point with a little flush whilst the water for the condenser is flowing it pushes it down with ease no blockages yet.

Re: couple ?s for a big spirit run

If you are in a hurry, keep the yeast happy by controlling the temperature to the high side of ideal. Keep an eye on the pH. Nobody wants a stall in a ferment intended for this Xmas. I've never done cornflakes, but I suspect boiling them would be a mistake and that you have done the right thing. th...

Re: Re-distillation safety question

OK, stupid but fundamental question from aspiring gin newbie. Here in the UK, legislation makes it extremely difficult for anyone other than a large commercial organisation to distil spirit. As a consequence many small gin makers (as I understand it) start with neutral grain spirit which they purch...

as socd suggested something modular so you can get the best of both worlds and to go big.1 build done right saves doing a smaller than larger with twice the costs.it was suggested to me from the start to go big so i went with a bokakob reflux as its modular with scrubbies in it refluxes without them...

Re: Poor result with birdwatchers sugar ferment

i water heat my 25ltr washes the sg is usually about 1.08 and i run it down to 0.96. 5kg up to 25l should measure 1.077. After fermentation max. 11.8%abv. Pure water and ethanol 11.8%abv measures 0.984. To get 0.96 is impossible unless your wash would have 33%abv or more. Either your hydrometer is ...
