That's one nic...

Re: WHO HAS MADE THE PERFECT PARROT
Looking for some guidance on building a parrot. The size and dimensions of pipes and fittings would be great. I read a few posts here saying it’s easy but that’s for the mechanically inclined so that leaves me out. It would be a great project for me to test my soldering skills. Well my first experi...

Re: Horizontal boiler
I'm glad to see that this post has encouraged some debate on a few things. I hope that some, has taken something from the information that has been given here. Although some still argue over what is true and what is false.

Re: Intrigued by the bubble plates
Thanks guys for all the great info. Shadylane I read your rambling post last night awesome stuff I can't wait to see how your other plates do. Great pic squeezins. What does the downcomer and upcomers look like and do you have any dimensions. downcomer are 3/4 pipe and 1" cap. The up comers ar...

Re: Horizontal boiler
If I'm not mistaken your assumption is correct. A larger surface area given the same power; would reduce the chances of puking due to the boil being less violent. Regardless of shape equal liquid volumes with both produce the same amount of vapor. The pot with the larger surface area would just have...

Re: Horizontal boiler
Absolutely NZchris True. But I doubt I'll be able to find one made out of copper that isn't going to cost an arm and a leg. Found this at the tip . 40 gal boiler ... too big for me and I’ll be shrinking it down a bit ... but ... bargains are out there . Be positive  4455FFAB-0CDF-4B94-967E...

Re: Horizontal boiler
I have thought about that Chris. I probably will use chain or cable to stabilize the column. But I still want the pot to be able to withstand the weight. Why? Geoff That's if needed Baker. Dependant on how stable the pot is. Also helpful due to the rc and water lines ect causing the column to be of...

Re: Horizontal boiler
Thank you for everyone's replies. Hopefully I can find a cheap pot about 30 gallons. It will need to have some strength to it due to the weight of the 3 or 4" column. On with my search.

Re: Horizontal boiler
I just finished reading that thread Chris. Boy, seems like most really don't like the idea of going horizontal. But a squatty pot is accepted. Is there really much of a difference between the two?

Re: Horizontal boiler
My main reason for thinking about going horizontal is to keep it's height down so that I don't lose the height for my column. I know it can be done just wasn't sure why it's not done more often. I have a half barrel beer keg but that will be too small and I don't want to go any taller. As I stated i...

Horizontal boiler
I have searched the site over and haven't seen anyone using a horizontal boiler. Is there any particular reason for this? I am in the planning stage for a 3" or 4" column. I know if I go with the 4" column, a half barrel keg would really be undersized. I am thinking of going with mayb...

Re: First build need modification help
Thanks for your input PhatFil. From what I have read from many other contributing posters. The offset head reflux still is preferred over the Boka. It seems as though most believe that you have more control over reflux with the offset. Do you have any pro's or con's to either setup? Where did that ...

First build need modification help
I am about ready to build the stillmaker valved reflux still with a few mods based on some of your suggestions. I plan on using a keg as my pot with a sanke clamp to attach my 2" column. One change I plan on is to not use a valve on the reflux return tube and just let it stick up in the condens...

Re: New build mods
Thankyou MC. I have been a member for a while but have never posted. For those interested, as I've stated I've only watched a few pot stills run. I have never tried myself. I also live in the US. I don't really have much to say about myself except I'm retired and am very interested in this hobby. I ...

New build mods
Hi all. I have seen a few small pot stills run and have been captivated by it. I have done a lot of reading (I have probably read and researched for a year or so), about the different types of stills and builds that people have posted about. I am about ready to build the stillmaker valved reflux sti...
