Lorann essential oils added to vodka?
Hi I was given a whole bunch of essential or infusion oils from a friend. So I thought why not make a flavored vodka. Most of them are water soluable so I know they will blend well. How many drops per 32 oz. jar should I use?

Different woods for aging whiskey?
I am a guy who believes in trying new things. I don't know if my research criteria isn't very effective, but I am looking for a complete list of acceptable wood varieties to use for aging. For example, white birch and japanese maple really interest me. I would like to know if there are more and the ...

Re: ABV calculations
What's funny is that someone has a recipe for apple pie that I saw which takes 1 gallon of apple cider, 1 gallon of apple juice, 8 cinnamon sticks, and a 750 ml bottle of everclear. If you were to mix all that up into 1 big jug, you would end up with about 9 to 10% drink. What I would do is add 1/4 ...

Re: ABV calculations
Thank you very much. I understand your formula very clearly. I appreciate it. It's just something I always wondered. Because once you alter a spirit, you can no longer rely on a hydrometer.

Re: ABV calculations
I'm just trying to figure out how to figure it out. Let's say if I were to make an apple pie moonshine. If I'm making enough for a half gallon Mason jar, I have an idea but not sure its accurate. A 750 ml bottle of everclear is a little under half the jar. So if I were to fill the jar with the pure ...

Re: 48 hour turbo yeast question
What I'd suggest if you want to use up your turbo yeast is use 1/4 turbo and 3/4 active bread yeast or distillers yeast. That will allow you to get enough nutrients without adding more and you won't be overdosing the nutrients and killing the taste (using only turbo). That or just set the turbo asi...

Re: Infusion oils to get flavors in neutral?
You want easy and no fuss... Lemons r.jpg Wash your citrus fruit well. And drop the whole fruit into some 63% alcohol! Two three days in the jar. Now, you have no time zesting, no possible exposure to pith and best of all you didn't ruin the fruit! Peel the fruit and it is still intact and moist. F...

Apple Pie Brandy/Whiskey
Hi guys! Im interested in doing an apple pie brandy/whiskey. Im going to do a corn mash. When it comes down to running it, i was going to use 2 thump kegs. One will have some of the wash with cut up apples, the other some of the wash with cinnamon sticks. My second idea would be to distill a hard ci...

Mason jar for thumper or gin basket?
I was looking around online and found that a couple companies have produced both a thumper from a half gallon mason jar as well as a gallon carboy. Has anyone here tried this? I have a 2 gallon pot still and primarily only get low wines around 40% to the most 55% abv. I think this would both help me...

Hi guys! Was wondering if anyone has tried or actively makes beer either without hops or with an alternative bittering agent. I love beer, however, my girlfriend is allergic to hops. Can someone give me a good ratio per gallon of mash for amylase enzyme. I want to make a potato vodka, but i want to base it on a 1 gallon mash. If i were to make a 1 gallon mash, how many pounds of potatoes and how much enzyme would i use to break down the starches to sugars?

Re: Your best vodka?
Now i know i have talked to a guy that said all he did was use potatoes, cooked them down, mashed them in a straining bag, added a couple pounds of sugar, and fermented it. Is this a terrible alternative to using malted barley?

Need help with a 1 gallon potato vodka mash?
Hi everyone. I understand that you have to cook down the potatoes, mash them up, and strain off the solids. My question is on the sugar end. I personally have experimented with apples using bakers, champagne, and nottingham ale yeast. For best flavor profile, nottingham takes the cake by a long shot. Strongly recommend it for hard cider and for apple brandy

Ive gotten pretty good at making fairly decent cuts. I usually have a couple 6 gallon buckets full of wash. So when im doing strip runs, im collecting everything first.
