What is the alcohol percentage of something if it's 140 proof and how do I determine it? I have a tester but I think it only shows the proof not alcohol content.

thanks Dnderhead I think that is what I must test out is the thermometer I was thinking that at the time I was distilling. I have two so I'll try the second one out.

What is the still?? what are you heating with? I purchased a mile hi reflux still and I'm heating it with a propane heater made for maple syrup. When I had it at the 172 mark nothing was coming out but when it hit up around 180-188 it was flowing like crazy. The product I ended up with is 140 proof...

steady temp..

my still came in last night and I tried a batch. Seemed to work Ok but I had a hard time keeping a steady temp at 172 or at any temp at that. What is the secret?????????????????? Any tips would be great.

Just picked up my grandma's old shed a 12X12 good size for me to start out in (I think) the wife is not to keen on two sheds in the back yard but I'm not to keen on how she spends all my money lol so it worked out..

I plan on getting some pics up soon to show everyone and tell me what you think..

fermenting on a regular basis

I would like to produce a steady flow of booze! Does anyone have a method for fermenting. What I mean is like make a mash every week or two days or just make around 5 carboys full and just spend the weekend distilling when the mash is ready? Or am I just getting crazy and taking on too much to start...
