rider, I did the same thing. but i actually built the internal reflux first and was unhappy with it never able to get above 89%. I dont understand why you wouldnt try to make your own. peated malt is readily available at most home brew shops and it may be a little harder to make an all grain wash than a sugar wash but isnt that part of the hobby. even if your not happy with the final results you can always run it through the ...

thanks for the tips, I think i will run my next batch when done fermenting and add to this run and run it all together for a second distill and as pothead said collect in smaller amounts. That is what there is left of this run, it seems to taste a little better all the time :lol:

get yourself some malted barley at your local home brew shop. Then you can convert the corn starch with the barley enzymes. I think you need at least 10% of your grain bill to be malted.

I use a bilge pump for a boat for my cooling water you can buy them at walmart for like 10 bucks. Only problem is they are 12 volt so you need a battery or an adapter

I just spent the day cleaning up some rootbeer i made for the kids. the bottles started exploding while at work :evil: . thankfully they were in the basement, wife would have killed me. no more soda, to dangerous ill stick with rum :lol:

I use the cooler method and after a couple hours test with iodine. If not ready i add some hot water to get temp back up and let go for a couple more hours. Always had good luck

Dried molasses

Just came across 50LBS of dried molasses, has anyone ever tried this for rum? If so do you just add water and yeast? It was only 10 bucks at the feed store so I thought I would try it.
