Because I have the musical taste of a 150 year old Italian immigrant: Sinatra - Watertown.

Songs 1-10 are the album, the others are different takes or extras.

When you go exploring tails to find rum oils... https://media.tenor.com/1pGqv-qTbFgAAAAd/we-all-float-down-here-twisted-pennywise.gif Yes, there's tons of good stuff in the tails. Though for most things in the tails it takes some time and chemistry to produce a great product. It's a little scary but...

You should call that the Calamari Condenser. I would expect to see that on moonshiners or something. I bet it works well though.

Not just rum, nearly any spirit. Little guys just can't compete on price. Big guys make quality products. By and large small places get by because people try to support local, not because they think their products are that great. It's nearly the opposite of craft beer. There's one local place that m...

Re: Looking for Flavor not sugars

There's a term for what you're looking for: https://homedistiller.org/wiki/index.php/Gumball You can add specialty grains to your sugarhead to achieve something great. Try a bunch of different ones. If you get something too strong keep it and blend it other things to back off the flavor. Mix and mat...

Yes. I changed the share settings so you should not need to request access anymore. It looks like you need to be logged into Gmail to access it. I will try to remove that requirement so anyone with the link should be able to get it without logging in.

RockinRockies wrote: Fri Dec 16, 2022 6:41 amIrish whiskey typically uses some unmalted barley, yes?
Yes. It varies wildly though with no set number. The reason is that there was a tax on malted barley and none on unmalted. It eventually became tradition as a way to differentiate Irish from Scottish whiskey.

Re: Flavor of Malted v. Unmalted Grains

Malting brings out a wider variety of chemicals that lead to a more complex flavor. I don't necessarily think it is always better. Think of it more like a tool - sometime you might want malted, sometimes you don't.

Reading more on the subject I've been seeing some interesting things about Acetaldehyde (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acetaldehyde) I'm starting to think as part of the flavor changes during the these three phases: 1. Airing out the heads 2. Barrel aging 3. In a bottle Distilling some ethanol is th...

Once fermentation starts the refractometer's results are not accurate unless adjusted. https://homedistiller.org/wiki/index.php/Refractometer There is a link to a calculator to get the true adjusted value. You're using EC1118 so you should be getting into the high teens for ABV. Is it possible to re...
