Re: Multi-use SSR controller?
I use my triac temperature controllers for temperature control of fermentation cabinet and for use in my boiler for sous vide cooking - Love that! I recently picked up an inkbird sous vide device and love it! The water circulation fin did break after three uses though and ordering parts is s...

I have also used them for hatching eggs - hens, ducks, geese, quail - but beware if you're going to do this humidity control is needed as well. And I have 40 tobacco plants ready to plant out in the next few days - Drying and curing will be a problem since our autumns tend to be cold and wet - so I'...

Re: Single malt whiskey using LME
Hi Shady, just browsing when I came across your thread here 8) I see people are still looking at the Malt extract solution and at the risk of upsetting all again I'd draw your attention to what Saltbush said here Nothing other than Ive used it as an additive in a bastardized version of UJSSM ...... ...
Re: Yield
Just because you have a thumper doesn't mean you have to use it. All of my UJSSM has been stripped and spirit run without using a thumper and I only ever had to dilute with water when I was a newbie at making it and was stopping the stripping runs far too early. You're a patient man @Chris 8) - (Go...

. I'm guessing a 20 gallon? Well, if a fellow engineer put their math out for review, what else can I do but review it? Sure, I'll venture a guess. The engineer in me won't allow me to guess. I take the facts I have, and the experiences I've lived, to build an analysis. I do love dogma !

In post 1 you tell us you charged the thumper with heads - but not bothering to tell us how much. Fur...

Glad you guys were able to find a significant other in life. Perhaps one of my character flaws is that I'm not as sentimental as I could be. I was only married for four years. But I don't claim to be normal. I've known maybe a dozen guys that have been married 3 times or more. If you'd walked aroun...

Re: Sugar Mash Advice
I have just tasted it and its quite sweet with no alcohol taste, so I guess this is no good :-( 2.5 lbs sugar and 5 ltr water is pushing it a bit for complete fermentation depending on your yeast type - with a bread yeast and most wine yeasts 2.2 lbs (1kg) is plenty for 5 ltr and even that needs a ...

I started ff using "Micronized Flaked Maize" from the horse feed stockist - to do UJSSSM and got something drinkable out of it. But nothing to compare with USA Whiskey. I feel that the USA version is more akin to what we call "Sweetcorn" tho' I have no way of trying the two side ...

Re: Getting a Pot Still to Reflux
Wow. Haven't posted in about 2 years! My pot still consists of a 20L tea urn, with a 22mm pipe up from the lid, leading to a liebig condenser at 45 degrees. The urn has a 2kW element, but I reduce the power to 25%-50%. I've cut the vertical column and patched in a 1m length of 28mm diameter pipe. I...

Re: Making a better tasting spirit
So I made a vodka using all corn and malted barley. I was able to get 2 750ml bottles of spirits. I used local water with a ph reading of 7.64 to dilute down to 40%. I also added 2oz of glycerin to help smooth it out. My question is because it's already diluted and has glycerin added am I able to f...
