Re: Wood fired steam boiler?

When burning with wood to get a stable temperature and clean burn it is 100% about air and pressure. All the leading combustion controllers for outdoor wood boilers, for example, measure and control air flow to extend efficiency.

Re: Fermentation finished?

Just make sure if you vent it to your greenhouse you understand that when you increase concentrations of CO2 for growing plants, the amount of heat needed in the space may increase as well to keep the plants respiring properly. Plants can suffocate from abundance of CO2 also. If it's not warm enough...

Re: My 3 year old

I'm working on some close to 5 year old rum, although it's still white; but the flavor difference between nearly 5 years ago and now on the same recipe is pretty crazy.

Re: This is cool,,,as far as I know.

I saw on a youtube video not long ago a guy who had built a frame from 2x4 and plexiglass and put it in a side-to-side sliding window that was about a foot tall, sticking like a foot in from the window only 2 inches wide.Thought it was pretty neat. Not probably something I'd do with my own home, but...

Re: Share something good! (Keep it positive)

The grass isn't popping yet, but a good portion of the snow has gone away this week. Only another 3-4 weeks before the hard to melt spots disappear. Ready to get my garden in for the year, among various other projects that require above freezing temperatures that I'd like to work on. Super excited t...

Re: Bottles for Rum or Vodka, and barrels for aging

That seems a little extreme, considering you did your first 2 batches of distillate in January, on an 8 gallon still. Perhaps you might consider slowing down, dramatically, until you have a better handle on the basics.

Trying to find premade reflux coil

Does anyone know of a manufactuer or salesperson of premade reflux coils in the united states? I have tried, repeatedly, to make my own, but I've messed them up to the point where I'm ready to just buy one. Maybe a little past that, I probably should have stopped 3 tries ago. I don't necessarily wan...

Re: Top of copper still is stuck

I would try to pour some water into the beak, enough so you could make steam for a while. As the copper heats, it will expand, hopefully enough so you can twist and unseat the joint. But make sure you wear gloves when you handle the hot boiler because it’ll be HOT! I'm on the same note, except I th...

I've got about 75 pounds of corn, 20ish gallons of blackstrap, and just a hair over 150 pounds of white sugar stocked up. I would be happy to have more, however.

Re: Dying on the vine.

It's nice seeing all that grass in your pics, guys. I've still got half a foot of snow and ice on the ground. This waiting for spring thing has got me bored and blue. Wind was something like 30mph and about 26 degrees F outside yesterday. I've got one little patch in my yard that I can see dirt in, ...
