Re: Oaking and aging the T-Pee way
I really am in no way qualified to give advice here but thought I'd just share my experience. I did a sweet feed run and went to a local wood craft shop and bought a 1/2" dowel rod of white oak. I cut it in 3 5" lengths, baked at 400 for 15 min or just till the aromas started to fill the k...

Re: sweetfeed whisky
Yes sir. This is basically an experiment to see if I can make this already wonderful drop just a tad smoother by not using sugar. The original recipe is honestly fantastic. It is my favorite white sipper, but there is still a sharpness from the sugarhead. I'm hoping corn for the engine rounds the e...

Re: sweetfeed whisky
well folks... like everything in life it seems, you can either skimp on effort or pay the price for convenience. The work to do this all grain is extensive... I have 3 hours in this process today (to be fair I F'd around but total work time was just under 3 hours- 15 minutes to weigh grains, 45 min...

Re: sweetfeed whisky
My first run turned out pretty good. I didn't stray from the recipe except the type of sugar. I got a 1.069 OG and .996 finish. I must say it was messy as hell not using any type of separation with the feed in the bucket. I just started my second mash and rinsed the feed and put it in cheese cloth. ...

Re: Running like a freight train
This finished with a .996 SG @ 1.5 weeks. I made my first cut at 150 mL and kept the next 325ML that I cut 3 times but ended up mixing it together at 150 proof. the last 110 ML got dirty so I shut it down. I never really felt a difference in the texture while making cuts but the smell cleaned up whe...

Running like a freight train
Well this is only my 2nd mash and I've got a little reading to do but holy shite. My first was just sugar and water and Red Star DADDY yeast that peculated like a slow Coffey maker. That was my sacrificial run. Now I have tried the Sweet feed Whiskey mash T&T recipe and its running like a freigh...

Lol good call on setting the jugs up. I set them on a outdoor seat cushion and some double bubble.shadylane wrote:If you've used a dehumidifier for a fermenter heater. You may be a Stiller
Just a thought. Raise the fermenter off the floor, so the bottom can get some warmth

Lol you might be right but I'm already producing a constant temp to utilize. If I didn't need the humidifier I probably would have.Hoosier Shine9 wrote:Hank,

Alternative ferment temp control
As I was sitting here grumbling that my first sugar wash was still bubbling after a week and was dying to run it to clean the still my wife and kids bought me for my birthday I had an epiphany. Well not really, I remembered what i read hear about temp and time of ferment. Ok, on to it. I had my jugs...

Yep 80k BTU, that's an awesome set up. The manafold pressure would typically be set at 3.5" water colume to get the proper burn with the air shutters the way they were when it was pulled out of the furnace but you could definitely down fire it like a regular Turkey fryer base and adjust the reg...

Re: Thoughts on this
those thing can be a PITA. The drain pan was just in case it leaked. they also auto shut off. just in case anyone else think of using one. Also 13,000 watts is 54ish amps and it rated 80 with a note that said 40 amp breaker, that part was a little confusing. Just thought i'd throw that out there.
