My first run (last night)...do you call this success?
I'm excited...after months of diligent research, I made my first batch of moonshine last night! As excited as I am, I need some advice. (I'm using a re-flux still, and I used the recipe from the recommended reading material "How to Make Pure Corn Whiskey"). My big problem: I put about 8 Ga...

Re: Amylase
I'm about to make my first batch of corn mash and in reading the recommended literature "making pure corn whisky", it says: "some home distillers have observed that the use of amylase has very little affect on the reduction of unfermentable sugars, and have decided to stop using it&qu...

Re: Weld-Free Electric Keg Boiler: A How-To Guide
when i heat up my corn mash & add flaked maize to start the fermentation process of my mash...I was going to find a 20 gal pot and heat it on my stove. but could i just pour it in my keg/still and use this setup instead? or would the heating element scorch the grains?

Propane burner and a reflux still?
Is it OK to use a propain burner when distilling moonshine? I read that it's best to use a hot plate, that way you don't have an open flame near a container of alcohol . Is that true? Because I'm more inclined to get a propane burner for my 16 gallon reflux still.

newbie here =)
I've been reading up on the science of re-flux stills lately, I find it fascinating. What are the chances that my neighbor just happens to have a re-flux still that he isn't using anymore and gave it to me! Aside from understanding the science behind a re-flux still, I'm grossly lacking in knowledge...
