Re: Compound Gin

WOWZA is this a carousel of flavor! Starts off with the traditional juniper, then you get only what I can call a mouth rush of mentholated liquor and then a quick snap of citrus. These flavors will likely marry together with a long rest. But for now, I'm serving this (along with other liquors of co...

Compound Gin

So I doubt this gin is anything revolutionary but I have been trying to approximate Ableforth's Bathtub Gin, I’m not sure if this gin is only available in the UK but it’s essentially a compound gin so no redistilation after the botanicals are macerated. The recipe I tried i have been working on is.....

Re: Calcium in finished product

So I made the rookie mistake of using bottled water for diluting my neutral and I think the calcium has come out of suspension and is making my product cloudy and leaving a residue in the bottom of my Demi. I'm of the view that your cloudy neutral has nothing to do with your water, but everything t...

Calcium in finished product

So I made the rookie mistake of using bottled water for diluting my neutral and I think the calcium has come out of suspension and is making my product cloudy and leaving a residue in the bottom of my Demi. Question is, is there a way I can filter this out? Also going forward can I used deionised wa...

Re: My first boka run

A bokakob is a liquid managed (LM) reflux still head. Adjusting the liquid take off rate will adjust the reflux ratio given you have a constant heat input. So, of course you can adjust the take off rate...just know that it may affect the purity of the product because you’ll be reducing the amount o...

My first boka run

So I’m currently doing my first spirit run on my home built boka, everything seems to be going well and I think I’ve detected where the heads have finished. Temperature at the plates is a steady 78.1c and I’m getting a shade under 95% abv so I’m happy with that. Currently my take off rate is about 2...
