Hi, Recently I have purchased this immersion heater from brewpi, it is an all stainless tri clamp heater, the element material is SS316 Stainless Steel and the flange material is SS304 Stainless Steel, so up until here all is good, and they are mainly selling these heaters for home brewers, normally...

Re: How to connect the ends of CSST
Hi, After trying a few things, I find a very simple solution, it is very easy I have just wrapped some teflon tape on the corrugations to fill them completaly, I have just wrapped less then half an inch and it worked I tested it now there is not leak at all. Re: How to connect the ends of CSST
My CSST OD is 3/8 do you think 1/2" will also fit ? Full disclosure: I've installed one (1) pair of 1/2" fittings. That said, I would not think it would be water-tight due to the oversize of the retaining ring. Unfortunately, a quick search returns few 3/8" fittings for sale. Can you...

Re: How to connect the ends of CSST
so what can you reccomend is there a fitting that I can install to this CSST ? CSST fittings are easy to install. I just did a pair myself recently. Of course, getting them may be an issue if you're not in the US. https://images.thdstatic.com/productImages/871d01f5-c58d-4216-9cf9-1b750574ef7d/svn/b...

Re: How to connect the ends of CSST
I'd just replace the CSST with a new one that has the fittings on the end and plumb it properly from there. You should be able to buy some SharkBite, Push to Connect fittings that screw right onto the threads and just insert the blue/red tubing. Well thanks I used to have a push to connect fittings...

How to connect the ends of CSST
Hi, I have a corrugated SS Coil, the problem is the end part of the coil had two brass fittings that unfortunately rusted so I had to cut them down, now I have left with two bare openings of the CSST, I put a silicon hose and fixed it with a pipe clamp, and it looked ok, I wanted to try it to see if...

Re: Can Fermentation Smell from a sugar wash get on other wines which are stored in SS tanks with floating lid
Artooks, how sensitive is your “sniffer”? I mean, how concentrated are the “fumes” from your boiler in the same room as the wine? If it’s extreme, then it is possible some of the airborne esters/ketones could settle and dissolve into the wine vat. But, it is unlikely those congeners would mask the ...

Hi Everyone, Time really flies, two weeks has passed and my cold maceration has completed, I took out two of my jars and combined them in a saucepan and mixed them very well, then I placed my funnel and put a coffee filter inside and started to filter my lemoncello, during this time I take a small s...

Re: Looking for an SS Camco straight holdback element
Here's a stainless element , but it's not Camco brand. Dernord makes a huge variety of elements. Dernord elements are good to go. I've been using them for years. Thanks, as far as I remember I purchased sanitary spool for my still from dernord I think, I did not know that they make elements, how is...

Re: Lemoncello Making (Odin's Recipe)
I find that my *cello products tend to separate over time. They don't really clear but a lot of the oils come out of suspension and form an oil layer on the top. In the case of the Orancello this is a bright orange. Since the oils are the source of the flavour I give the bottle a good shake before ...

Re: Running Heating Element Dry by mistake
It appears intact...First inspect the exterior for burns or holes. Then you could check it with a multimeter... I think it ran dry for a short time otherwise it would have been seriously damaged (melted) An ohmmeter should tell you if it’s fried or not. Remember, ohm’s law: V = I x R. So,...

Re: Running Heating Element Dry by mistake
First, always make sure there's sufficient liquid in the boiler. Find how much it takes to cover the element - in theory you need to always end a run with a bit more than that no matter what. You can do this mathematically based on alcohol percentages and so forth, but common sense will get you clo...

Re: Ted's Fast Fermenting Vodka
Hey Artooks, I honestly don't think you can go wrong with this recipe if you get the ferment right, so the more important question is probably what are you doing with it? Taste as close as you can get to the middle of your stripping run and you'll probably get an idea of what a pot still run would ...

Running Heating Element Dry by mistake
Hi, Today I did complete my vinegar run in my small 3 Gallon boiler, the problem is I put 2.5 gallons of water vinegar mix and run it hard, at the end of the run, when I opened the top part of the still I saw that my heating element is dry, it is an "4500 Watt Straight (LWD) Camco 02929 " ...

Re: Cleaning procedure after taking a break from distilling
On those small rust spots on your stainless, you should clean and polish them down to shiney metal then passivate them with acid. This may prevent the rust from coming back for a while. Search for the term passivate or passivation to learn the correct acid and process. Citric acid works, and I beli...

Hi,
I normally do 2 fermentation and 2 stripping runs, for my reflux I use my ccvm still, is it ok to use a ccvm still ? or would it be better to do another potstill spirit run ?

Re: Cleaning procedure after taking a break from distilling
Unless I've soldered anything since I last ran, my cleaning routine is generally "washing the spiders out with some water then doing a stripping run." My kit is largely stainless steel as well, and while I may get a couple of drops of slightly discoloured spirit at the very start of the r...

Cleaning procedure after taking a break from distilling
Hi, I am using an SS still for the last 8 years, and I usually distill in the winter and stop around in April and start again in September so I am not using the still for 6 months, then when I start again I wash all my still parts with PBW and use the procedure to clean a new still, first with water...

Moonshiners "reality show" is very low on the list for accuracy. I'd recommend Still it. https://www.youtube.com/@StillIt/videos Some of his recipes sound kinda ikky  but the distilling info is honest and safe. Yes I have been watching him since the beginning, as you said his ...

I could watch them all if I could. I get to see how much I've picked up here by seeing their mistakes. Alan Bishop seems to make the least for me. You will get torched by shallow Stiller's here for this post I bet. I've learned that you really can't tell a book by its cover. Sometimes you can find ...
