Re: A few questions to guide me on cuts
So I have just completed the second spirit run Using the help I have received here I worked out that from my 10L 32% low wines I should get around 5.2L Using a rough calculation of 25% heads, 50% hearts, 25% tails I collected 1L in a jug and put it in the feints pot. the rest rent into the same jars...

Re: A few questions to guide me on cuts
Skow I get what you are saying about the numbers. But as I am going for a neutral the moment I got a smell of cardboard I did another 100ml just get the conformation then I stopped the run, so in theory I could have got a ot more tails. I definitely see no point in the tails going in - bad flavor lo...

Re: A few questions to guide me on cuts
...7.5L x 30%ABV = 2.25L at (a theorectical) 100%ABV. SO I GET THE 2.25L BY DIVIDING 7.5l BY 30%... NO....you MULTIPLY the wash volume by the %ABV of the collection...as i SHOWED you already! Sorry I didn't explain myself well I was just trying to sort it in my head ...But you won't collect it at 1...

In order to make it clear I shall use caps but I'm not shouting (I'm just looking) I have a little Chinese 15l pot still. Going to build a boka- Can i run some ideas past you all
Hi all not sure if this is the best forum to post on, I was trying to post in the still design on the new distillers lounge but I couldn't . So here goes. I have got the bug and have decided to build a boka based on pikliks mini still design. before I go out and buy loads of stuff I thought I would ...

Re: Threaded copper fitting
To be hones its not the cost of the thread file as such, more my fear of not being able to create my own tri clamp flange. If I can manage to create the flange myself then great. If I had to buy them pre made then the threaded option would be much better . I am in the situation where time is precio...

Re: Threaded copper fitting
Stringman preserving boiler sounds like a pressure cooker. gaskets, and seals are an issue and if its aluminum it's not recommended. Skow69; do you know what the carrier agent is that is used in liquid Teflon ? Its not a pressure cooker at all. Its more like a large hot water urn with a heater belo...

Hi all I am in the process of designing my mini boka still using a preserving boiler. I will post it in the build section as I have many questions to ask. What I was hoping to do was build a 2" slanted plate design. I was hoping to solder a small section to the lid of the boiler and than have 2...

Re: Stainless steel condensor
yeah I saw that Chinese offering, looks ok to me, but hard to tell before you have it in your hands, which would be 1-2 month depending on shipping time. for some reason I'm wary off that SS coil but I get SS ferrules from China, go figure... mini still or big still, the size of the condenser is di...

Re: Stainless steel condensor
Do NOT use shower hoses...they are lined with a rubber hose inside...BAD! In the build, you linked to there is a very fine coil. perfectly made and not longer than necessary. 150 mm double wound for a 2" is fine, as long as you keep the water flow at +1 L/min. I'd forget all about salt, water ...

Hi all I am in the process of designing a boka still. By designing I mean looking at what everyone else has done and copying it lol I have a 30L presewrve boiler so was going to follow this post as my design plan http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17205 so that's a 36.5 cm head and a 115...

Re: 2nd stripping run?
Danespirit many thanks for your time and effort in your replies I have been frantically investigating still designs. I think I like the idea of a hybrid boka. so I can use one column as just a srtipping run and then add the other to do reflux. I am thinking of a 2 " column but have yet to work ...

Thanks guys Danespirit I see what you are saying now, so really I have just done a quick and dirty spirit run! Based on what you are saying what I was thinking of doing is this. Do the "cuts" on what I have so based on what I posted previously i would end up with about 1.9L dilute to 40% ,...

Preserving boiler as the basis of a still
Hi all I have a cheap Chinese pot still which I am starting to learn with. I am intending to make a CCVM still. The problem I have is that if I use the mains gas I only have 70cm from the top of the pan to the ceiling. I was advised to by a hotplate. On an auction site I follow I have seen a preserv...

Re: stripping run advice, temps etc
Could have been me, Chris.. :D Lego is one of our export hits here in Denmark. All my equipment is made modular, that opens up a whole bunch of new opportunities, without the need for a new build. Btw Stringman..You've already got some very good advice from the guys in here, so I've not much more t...

Re: stripping run advice, temps etc
Leggo is a Danish kids building block toy system. My reference to it, was to suggest a set of multi purpose components that can easily be configured to various distilling tasks using tri-clamps as the joints. That cracked me up lol You get so many quirky names (birdwatchers wash etc) that I just pr...

Re: stripping run advice, temps etc
Thanks for all the advice guys I now have about 5.5L of 40% neutral, still smells far from neutral though. I will have to wait a while before I can do a spirit run. hopefully this weekend will be free. I like the sound of these stills. I think I like the CCVM still. I will do a search for some prope...

Gin basket that can be inserted under the swan neck for making gin.
Bokakob column (or whatever takes your fancy) for vodka and clean neutral.
I did a search for leggo still but couldn't find anything on it?

Re: stripping run advice, temps etc
Stringman has a pot still, so I am answering his questions on that basis. By the time the total low wines collection reaches 40%, there isn't a huge amount of alcohol left in the boiler, not enough to be worth scavenging for making a neutral for gins with a pot still. You can spend the time and ene...

Re: stripping run advice, temps etc
Thinking I will see me making a reflux still soon the pot still was very hard work and very messy with the worm being so small it kept overfilling and flooding. I do have an idea of using a 25L fermenting bin full of water and then using a fishtank pump to just cycle the water in and out do you thin...
