Re: Hydroseparation
Thanks, I'm fully aware that something like that is a process that takes time to master. I'll use it in a comparative way next to the traditional method.

Re: Hydroseparation
Thanks, I did not yet discover this but this would simplify making cuts a lot. I'm currently buffering strips but once I'm ready to making cuts again I'll try this and compare with the method I'm used to and see if it suits me. Do you go by this method and if so, do you cut at the onset of this oily...

Re: Hydroseparation
I figured out why I had difficulty identifying the cuts. I had bought a parrot and used it for the first time. My goal was to have ABV measurements without having to do anything but I did not realize what I do now.... the parrot mixes what you collect thus ending up with a less clean product. The pa...

Re: Hydroseparation
Good thing ............ Lots of text........ . Do we have a pot distiller around who is willing to strip, hydroseparate and distill without making cuts and telling us how it is? I have read the same about hydroseparation in the book mentioned above and figured it would be easy to give it a try if i...

Re: How long do you ferment?
In "Making pure corn whiskey" by Ian Smiley it is emphazised that a fermention should never exceed 96 hours to avoid esters (page 62 and I believe there are more). However, I have never read this anywhere else. Also I never came across anyone conforming to this and personally I ferment unt...

Re: new member (Netherlands)
well, I'm not sure if it is endangered but it certainly is not abundant. I do know it needs very specific conditions to grow. There is a cluster of them in National Park De Hoge Veluwe (here: https://goo.gl/maps/NSNiDE6ggkq" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nof...

great! Don't forget to walk by the Juniper tree in the Arboretum and pick the berries that I left for others.....
If it would ever be required/desired, maybe we could exchange equipment or experiences some day.

Re: new member (Netherlands)
Interesting, I have lived for 10 years in that city and I have actually once by mistake triggered the fire alarms of the capitulation-hotel you mention while working on the wooden floors. We live at walking distance from each other. If you take the ferry on the east side of your town, the first vill...

Re: new member (Netherlands)
Most places I can come up with that fit this discription are actually in Utrecht.
I live in the area that was known as the manneneiland (men-island) during the evacuation of the Betuwe during WW2.

Re: new member (Netherlands)
Ignore this especially if you use one of the recipes suggested above. I did not use one of those recipies but rather put together something myself. The main subject of the book that states the remark on the 96 hrs is corn whiskey and I haven't seen it elsewhere. Could this mean it only applies tot ...

At the moment that is distiling my own spirits. This fascination started about one year ago. Since then I have gath...
