Pot / Column Hybrid? Is that a thing?
Forgive me if this has been covered, but I'm interested in getting the best of both worlds in one still and wondering if anyone has done this: How would it work out if I placed a packed column on a pot still, but connected it to a worm or Liebig, omitting any type of in-column or top-of-column conde...

What is the most "hands-off" design?
Hi All, Took a long break from the hobby due to family reasons. Just this week, I did my first batch of brandy in about 3 years using my homemade pot still. It came out pretty good, but MAN, I forgot how much work this is! So, I'm thinking that I might like to build something new - something with a ...

Re: Started with wine - made vodka
Message received about the baking soda - no more for anything but neutral.
I was also a bit paranoid about having too much tails.
Maybe the greasy flavor was just un-aged tails that needed to stay in place and age a bit.
Not sure why the heads tasted off.
Thanks all.

Re: Started with wine - made vodka
Thanks for the help. It was Malbec made from a kit. So concentrated Malbec juice, reconstituted and fermented for about 4 weeks. Yeast was (I think V1116? ) Added sorbate and sulfite. What I got was a mediocre malbec. This was the first time I used sorbate and I think that made it less than great - ...

Started with wine - made vodka
Very new here. On my second batch of "brandy" - the first was a throwaway. I started with about 2 gallons of wine and on my first run came out with about a quart and a half of 80 proof brandy. It was okay, but based on what I read, it seemed like a second run was in order. so... I diluted ...

Re: Novice Guide for Cuts (pot still)
Can someone help me understand the safety margins involved in making cuts? I'm a homebrewer of wine and beer and just started distilling in an attempt to turn my not-so-great batches of wine into decent brandy. I'm *VERY* new at this. I did a small 3L run last night and I'm a bit paranoid about drin...
