Re: How to make an everlasting PTFE gasket, Very Easily...

Is this what folks are using as a gasket when it comes storing their high abv spirits in glass jars? Looking to replace the rubber one that comes with the glass lids.

From what I can gather is you can use any of the Gerber cereals as a substitute for the Barley. Sounds like we are just utilizing the vitamins in the cereal.

But yes, having a horrible tie locating said Barley cereal.

Re: Thermometer: what to use and where to put it!

I totally get what your saying. I would just like something to alert me when the charge gets close to the boiling point. I cant see myself hovering over the boiler. You know what they say, "a watched pot never boils!" But I do hear what your saying! A stripe of color changing nail gel on ...

Re: Thermometer: what to use and where to put it!

Thermometers in my experience proved to be less than useful in the boiler sadly. I found fitting a sight glass on the top of the keg to be more useful. when it goes clear the vapours are working their way up the still so defeating the point of having one to know when its about to start running and ...

Re: Thermometer: what to use and where to put it!

The only place I have one is below the level of the charge where the boiling point can be used to calculate the abv in the charge. Having one anywhere else is likely to cause you more trouble than not having one, especially while you are still learning how to run a still. So as low as I can go...eh...

Re: Thermometer: what to use and where to put it!

The STC1000 is a cheap, simple temp controller. That's useful for a digital thermometer. The NTC sensor is basically a resistor that varies with the temperature. You stick the sensor in the thermowell. If all you want is a digital thermometer Here's a cheap and simple one http://stilldragon.com/ind...

Re: Thermometer: what to use and where to put it!

Ok got it the STC IS the controller!! Can you show me, or post a link of the NTC sensor you are referring to? How are you isolating the Themowell from the boiler electrically? I would think having some gasket of some type would leak or melt? Does the STC1000 have a program that recognizes the "...

Re: Thermometer: what to use and where to put it!

Right on! Ok bear with me here but break down the STC and NTC meanings. I immediately googled the STC1000 to see what it was, but had a bunch of junk show up. Same with the NTC. So the thermowell is on the top, you put the STC in the thermowell and attach it to the Inkbird All-Purpose Digital Temper...

I do like the idea of the ~1/2" threaded bung / coupling for the thermometer. (scours internet for said part)

Seeing a lot of automotive "bungs" for racing equipment. They state they are SS. Hesitant on messing racing fuel parts with food grade equipment

Thermometer: what to use and where to put it!

Was laying out a keg for some penetrations I am about to make and had purchased a 6" Thermowell from Brewers Hardware that I was going to weld into place. As I looking at it I began to have second thoughts, maybe just apprehension, about the way the thermometer would sit inside the themowell. T...

+1 Badmotivator. That's the way I also get all my stainless shiny, I go all the way down to grid 3000, though. cool thanks guys!

BTW where is everyone buying their ULWD Camco elements at? I see people stating "mine were just $8" or something like that. I can only seem to find ULWD in the 20-30$ range. I was looking for something like 3000W at 240V or maybe even 2500W/240V screw in 1" NPS types
