Re: Cornflakes whiskey

Hi all, I have made a 20l batch of cornflakes whisky and left it to sit for a couple of weeks. Very exciting! It has now finished fermenting but the cornflakes are sitting up to the 9l level in the fermenter. Any tips on how to rack it - can I squash the cornflakes down before racking with a long s...

Good day you

Like fizzix (+1) I have a BH still, and I found that my diffuser plate helps a lot. It more stable while on my hot plate. I feel that it reduces any hot spots that may come from the hot plate. I also feel it help regulate temperature more effectively.

Re: What size Mason jars are best / most useful?

Good day to you all. If you on a budget then I recommend to get 2 or 3 cases of Qt jars with measurement msrks on them. Then you can fill them to your desired amount and use them how ever you need. I run an 8 gallon boiler with 6 gallons of wash/low wines. I do collect down to 20% and I normally hav...

Re: New to this

My advice would be sit on your hands and don't buy anything until you do more research. You need to know what you want to make before deciding on what type of still you need Rum, Brandy, Whisky ? Vodka , Neutral ? Gin or other flavored drinks ? All require different methods and in many cases differ...

Re: uncle jesse's simple sour mash method

Good day to all. I started my first gen of UJSSM this week. I took the backset from the stripping run of th 25l CF (cornflake). That had a SG 1.074. I ran it down to 30% before stopping. I then added 7lb sugar to a little more the 5l of backset. I fill my 25l fermenter to the 5l mark with cracked co...

Ive always uses both columns On two runs that I can remember where I've had less heads in it As for most of the time(95%), I'm at jar 11 before I feel...

Re: large amount of heads normal in pot still with CM

Pikey Yes that's the bad boy. I'm running it as a pot still. I tried several time to make a neutral with VERY poor results. After 12-16 hr runs with only a qt or so of drinkable product I gave up on making neutrals. Its easy for me to do a faints run (3 or 4 times distilled) then it is to do a sugar...

I've not had good luck with doing any generation. Do you keep what left of the yeast cake and start with fresh flakes?or do make fresh and use the some % of backseat? I would like to know what others are doing before I start experimenting.

Re: Amount of Heads to keep in faints

Pikey I'm looking to see if I can improve my process in making a whiskey and neutral as I've not made anything else yet. By charging the next stripping or spirit run(s) am I just adding more heads and stuff we don't really want to next run. Or am I adding that, plus others things that can benefit as...
