Re: How do the Florida members get by?

Arkansas says having ANY part of a still is a no-no. Even if my wife wanted a small still for essential oils, we cant legally have it. Our laws talk about untaxed booze but when its down to the still and parts, its left vague. Probably so its easier for them to press or add charges.

Re: Anybody get any good deals lately?

This week I hauled in around 187 cases of wine bottles. 1.5l & 750ml. If it wasnt for the air compressor in the truck, I could have gotten the last 13 cases. I could easily spend the whole day re-stacking & organizing them all but I wont.

Oh I plan on fruit this year. Found a good stand of persimmons not far from the house. A friend has a wild plum tree that puts out good plus a local peach ordeal that goes on. Then anything else I can get ahold of.

With out checking the reg or manual for the hellfire, I think its a 0-10psi. So far Im happy with it, just have to get used to it with my ventilation system and this colder air. The other days cleaning run, I dialed it back just to see how it would do. I should be fine running slow as changes happen...

I would steer clear of watermelons. Checked my 3rd round of wine the other day &  I dont think it will work out like persimmons did wine wise but Im going to strip it just to save the alcohol. Im really glad I didnt take that 2.5 tons of free melons last week now.

Oh ya, about those folks who ask to many questions at the hardware store..... tell them you are working on your doomsday machine. When you end up buying parts for several projects at the same time and nothing goes together other than the still parts, people stop asking questions right then and there.

The still dragon ferules will fit on the outside like others have said but watch out. The groove for the seal is cut/milled different than "spec" . I had several phone calls and emails back when I got my SD ferules because my teflon seals would seat right. It blew their mind that someone w...

Well, I did it again and hot damn it was fun! It was only a vinegar run. I finally have a brew/still house set up. More of a place to work without tearing everything down each time and a place out of the way to ferment in a barrel. First thing, if you are running gas, look into the hellfire burners....

Re: Disappointed in this Still It video. Wondering what yall think.

Given the details of running are a bit fuzzy from my break, the info they are saying doesn't seem completely right. Ive run brain deadly slow before and it wasn't worth it. The numbers might be higher but the time vs taste ratio wasn't worth it compared to running faster at a decent speed. I'm sure ...

Sounds almost like a one off piece. Find a piece of glass that will work, find seals, make frame for the window to weld on. Have you look at the major still or mash tun people? I seem to remember seeing sight windows of decent size on a still. At one time I was planning on putting a few of those 2&q...

Re: 10 gallon still heating problem

Given I'm on gas, the 1500w might not be enough of an element to put out enough. It could also be that you are loosing to much heat to the air. Try insulating the boiler to keep the heat in there.

If the element is well covered it should be getting hot. Does it get to boiling with only 4g in it?

It's about time I get back into the hobby after a shitty break. The last couple of years have been a roller coaster to say the least. I haven't tinkered much with my set up at all in about a year. Re: homer buckets for fermenting

+1 on the larger fermenter sentiment. A popular and efficient approach is to size your fermenter for 3-4x the size of your boiler stripping charge so you can do one ferment for 3-4 strips which will give you a boiler charge of low wines and a single strip run... 50 gallon'ish hdpe barrel is an econ...

I wonder if a blueberry grappa could be made from the discarded pulp? I dont see why not. I made some killer blueberry wine a couple years ago.... wish I would had saved a bottle or two. New and cleaned 5 gallon buckets, used them for a good while. Just got to be to much work after a while and have since switched to a stainless barrel.
