Hey New Moonshiner, that was your 500th post! Yeah i sipped it and it was'nt bad at all. I was thinking of running without any packing, and just doing this first run fast. Should i leave the packing in or would it be faster without it? Would it make any difference?

I went out to the garage and popped the lids and both fermenters smelled OK to me so, I will fire it up in the morning and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the advice!

Should I Try It?

I have 2 five gallon fermenters that are a simple sugar wash. The catch is that they have been out in the garage since early November. The wash is crystal clear, with no mold or other nasties in it. I thought I would do a stripping run and see if I could get the alcohol out of it without too much tr...

Storing Yeast

I just got in 25 packs of Turbo 48 (foil packs) and was wondering how you guys would store it. I'm not talking security or anything just where would store it to keep it as fresh as possible. Would in the fridge work?

Worth reposting

I was reading through some of the old posts and thought this was a really good one. It reminded me of some of the things I had forgotten and so I thought I would bring it up again for some of the new guys. (and for some of the old ones that needed a refresher)

When you stop getting bubbles through the Co2 vent is when you need to add the Sparkolloid. With a 40 litre wash I would think all you need is about 2/3 of an ounce of Sparkolloid. I usually see residue, on the bottom of the fermenter, start forming in about an hour and it is crystal clear in 48 hou...

I distilled 16 litres of Carlos Rossi Burgundy wine and it really screwed up my copper packing. I tried to clean the packing with vinegar and baking soda to no avail. Soooo, if you do it maybe leave your packing out for a quick stripping run.

This works for me. I bought an Essential Extractor II from Brewhaus 4 months ago. I have about 20 runs under my belt and I am very pleased with the results. I hit 92-93% every time. I use 15lbs. sugar with the turbo 48 in a 25 litre wash. I run it twice just to make a better cut between the heads, c...

The connector on the regulator is made to go on refillable bottles, but I think I'll hook it up to the big house tank. That way I can stay out in the garage. I already have propane ran out here for a heater. I know,I know,be sure and vent . :)

Turkey Fryer

I've been using a 1100W hot plate for my heat source, but it seems to take forever to get going. So I decided to start using propane. I went to Academy Sports and found what I was looking for. The turkey fryer kit came with a 30 quart stainless steel kettle, burner, propane regulator, stand, thermom...

Ah, I see. But why would you build your shelves at an angle? To save space? To make it look better or maybe more organized. Just curious. I guess it really does'nt matter since its AKs cellar anyway. He knows alot more about what he's doing than I do.

I bought one from Rick at Brewhaus. $16 or so plus shipping. It works fine. The only bad part is the lead is only about 2 ft. long but it works for me alot better than the glass one I used to use.

Holy crap AK. Is that wine or booze? If its wine, power to ya, if its booze I'm so far behind its humbling to say the least. I do a run almost every weekend and it still seems like I can't get ahead. Is there an advantage to storing your bottles at an angle? Oh, I guess on second thought the ...

I did the same thing yesterday. (not as much wine though) I ran it thru my reflux still and couldn't tell any difference from just a plain sugar wash.
