Re: Tower of Power

That looks awesome Burl. Good luck on Saturday. AC Thanks! Turned it on at 6 this morning. So far so good. Looks like I'll finish 30-35 ahead of the gas this time. Started with a really cold wash cause I skipped a week to mash in another batch, thus removing today's wash from the warming pads and j...

Re: First bottling

Nice!! Stash a bottle or two away to try in a year or two - it's a great way to gauge your progress in this hobby. I have learned a lot from the bottles that I find years later - some good, some not so - all great learning tools Have fun OVZ Edited to say - from experience trying to make labels loo...

Re: First bottling

Nice presentation. How do YOU like it? It's wonderful! I have been a bourbon snob for a decade. That being said, I would rank it up with the $40-$50 a bottle stuff, adjusted for bias, lol! Really though, if someone gave it to me and said they made it.....I would have called them a bullshit liar. No...

Re: First bottling

I like them too. Where did you find them? specialtybottle.com Out of Seattle. Both the 8oz round and the 12oz whisky were $2.25 each, corks included. No minimum order, shipping, to Indiana, was reasonable. Can't recall exactly, but I think it was under $10. They have around 8 styles for liquor, fro...

First bottling

Just wanted to share our first bottling of some bourbon. Turned out really nice Clark. Small batch, 150oz in the barrel @127 proof (ya 1% over a technical bourbon) with the Angel's share and sampling throughout, we bottled 130oz proofed down to 100. 6 months of aging.

Re: Tower of Power

Hi Burl. box I am running the controller from StillDragon, I went to the larger size for ease of building (have fat hands). I did not put a meter on it, went to Harbor Freight and got a clamp on multimeter, it works but I am still planning on getting a meter on the box. I have a 15.5 keg with a 450...

Re: Sweeter Shine

Ya, guess you're right. Domino is roughly double for DBS than the white. I suppose I'm willing to pay the extra. Only doing 10 gal washes with 20lb of sugar, so I really don't care about the $8 difference. I was thinking you were taking about beet based sugar like Pioneer or store brands, screw that...

Having grown tired of pencil marks on my first build I added the following to my second build to provide a more consistent and repeatable process. https://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_pag...

Re: Question

Sorry guys, didn't realize that the question would strike such a nerve. I'm not a huge fan of social media either, but it does serve a decent purpose sometimes. Was just figuring a "private" group might be cool, but it's no big deal. This is a good forum and I am happy to be part of it. An...

Re: Sweeter Shine

Are you dead set on doing corn? I started with, and regularly distill, a 100% Dark brown sugar shine. It's sweet goodness and simple as shit. Co-workers and family love it. I know it sounds cheap, and it actually is(bout $25 for sugar/yeast per 10 gal wash), but it's so clean and so palatable. If y...

Another pic. I want to tell the world, but it falls on deaf ears most times. Figure you guys might actually appreciate it! Left to right: Bourbon #1. Using our first set up(3gal pot still), multiple mashes with cracked corn and some sugar, with a 2nd distillation in the end. In the barrel @127 proof...

Re: Simple Scotch Recipe

For a lighter peat flavor, I have had really good luck with Simpsons Irish distillers malt and then mix in some pleated malt to get the level of peat you want. 2lbs or slightly more grain per gallon. I am distilling a mash of 100% crisp medium pleated malt today. Mm mm. I want it to taste like I'm ...

Simple Scotch Recipe

Hey folks! Going to be decanting my 5L barrel of Bourbon next month and figured since I couldn't technically (legal description cause I'm anal about booze) make a Bourbon in it again, thought the best thing to do is to make a good Scotch in that baby. I love Island Scotch. Laphroaig is my favorite, ...

There are many controllers out there and you can spend as much as you want. The one that stilldragon sell is as good as any and if you are the least bit handy can assemble it. I'm not affiliated in any way but giving you an option. http://stilldragon.com/index.php/diy-large-controller.html" on...

Re: Tower of Power

When I saw tower of power I was thinking 69-70's R&B. Gettin old as gold. As the fizzman said and we are also assuming that you are still running a pot still. And also taking it that you own one already. If you don't there are other options for less money. Running a 13 gallon milk can with a 2 ...
