pH at 3.2, so added CaCO3 - checked this morning and had increased to 3.8, so added the same amount again - still fizzing away :D

Re: Cornflakes whiskey

Gave this a kick on the weekend based on all the good comments it was receiving; 750g CF as that was the Kellogs packet size, simmered in 4L UJSSM backset that I had frozen, for 30mins, then added to 3.5Kg sugar. Waited for sugar to dissolve, made up to 22L, then let it cool to ~35C before pitching ...

Re: SBB's All Molasses Rum Recipe

If its just a strip run let the strip do the cleaning...a bit of brown in the low wines wont hurt. Ended up just dropping the hose into the column, making sure the flow came out the other end - first ever puke, so wanted to make sure there were no blockages. Will strip tonight..... Stripped deep in...

Re: SBB's All Molasses Rum Recipe

Attempted a stripping run today; boiler pretty full, and usually don't have to worry with conditioner/ oil, so just let her rip. Pretty sure I had a puke, because I had brown goo everywhere.

Assume I just ned to clean up and add some olive oil and re-run.......

Just put down a 3x strength in 1L, copying NZChris' approach sometimes..... Let's see what unfolds. I assume you distill the 3x strength, then blend off (like an essence) into neutral.... Yes. I make up a sample at 45%, make up some neutral at 45%, blend in neutral until the louche just disappears,...

Experimenting with Sloe Gin

I have had some success with OEG, and also a couple of other variations of gin (1 similar to Bombay; 1 using Rosemary and Lavender as the hero, and a Liquorice Root dominant) So I have had a crack at some sloe gin, by rehydrating sloes adding caster sugar, then adding some OEG. Let it sit for 2 mont...

Let's see how this goes.... after a bunch of Birdswatchers TPW, thought I'd try one of these.
