Hello Again

It's been a couple years I guess since I've been here or enjoyed the hobby for reasons some here may know but, the Lord's been good to us and I'm cautiously partaking in the hobby here and there.
I mostly just miss reading, learning and conversating with everyone.
Cheers!

Re: Roasted Steam Rolled Barley

Here in Louisiana I haven't found a feed store that carries barley, only wheat and Millet and only in the winter months (which is only like 2 months down here).
Have y'all a good online gain source?

Manganese in Well Water

I'd much rather use our well water for mashes and washes but after testing we found we have an Extremely high amount of this manganese in our water. We cannot drink it and after a $3500 filtering system, we still can't get it out. But because it would be distilled, would it be OK? I don't understand...

Re: Bubble plate loading

I had this same problem. I wrapped the tape around the actual Teflon gasket, passing through the center of the gasket to wrap up the edges and get a tighter seal from the tri clamp. Because I also had a leak at the clamp flanges. This seemed to fix those leaks but still had loading issues with 2 of ...

Thanks,
I didn't think to look at that (air pocket) but it does set off the bottom about 1 1/2". If I ever get back to running I'll check it out.

Re: 100qt Brew pot $80

Not much to say, Here's a pic of the sheet metal I cut out. It worked really well the last strip I did was more like a pot of grits than a mash. I ran it pretty hard and no scorch. I'll try to answer any questions you may have though. Fire away![IMG]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200922/3601afb3...

Re: 100qt Brew pot $80

I loaded grain and all into my 8gal milk can kettle and set it in the 100qt. Then cut a piece of Home depot sheet metal out for a cap. (Redneck Bain Marie) No scorch whatsoever ever. One Safety Topic Not Covered

I work in an industry where Safety is above all and thousands if not millions of dollars are spent each year on equipment, personnel & training. The Number 1 rule is protect yourself and the number 2 rule is mitigate the hazard(s) before you start any task. With that being said, I failed number ...

Re: My First All Grain

I hate this has turned into one of those extremely long stories to follow but I've just now been cut back to 60hrs a week and get Sundays off. I made 1 strip a couple weeks ago and it finished up at approx 1gal at 30%. I left as much of the sediment behind as possible but it wasn't nearly as clear a...

Doing the first stripping run with my new shotgun and simplified pot still. 10th generation UJSSM. I’m very impressed with how much vapour this thing knocks down with way less water. Maybe take a gallon of one that has stuck pretty high, 1.04 or so, bring it to temp and add some liquid enzyme to it. Cool it and throw some yeast at it then and see if you get some action.
