Re: Lil Ugly

One idea would be cut the top larger then peen it into a shallow dome shape with a soft hammer, not only will it give the top more rigidity it will also work harden the copper to make that much stronger. Also say a 2" riser tri-clamped could serve as fill port which will let you solder the lid ...

Re: Stuck rye fermentation -- toss or ??

you need a hydrometer to check the stage the ferment is at NOT a refractometer as that only measures the sugar content and once the yeast is pitched put the refractometer away as it has done it's job. chances are the ph has dropped to the high 3's and it will need a bump up so do the adjustments and...

Re: If you've ever....you might be a Stiller

Well I have found trying to get my shed fire started with wet wood 50ml at a time of my collection of foreshots sure gets the fire going. 8) My first gen of barely and rye was taking ages so just to mix things up threw in a brew tin yeast so the US-05 yeasties could have a feed. Just had to have a d...

Re: anyone made signle malts whisky wanna share experience?

Now for mashing I just heat the strike water to 74C and throw the crushed grains in then cover i...

I malt my own barely here on the farm albeit only 3kg's at a time due to the size of the equipment I use which is for malting a 600x600mm SS trough for the malting. A plastic bucket with holes drilled in the base for getting the right moisture content in each grain, wet the grains down one morning t...

instead of trying to find the extracts just soak each ingredient in some 90% hearts of hearts to make a tincture, decant the liquid each second day until all the flavour is leached out then temper down to 40% and put it thru a pot still to get a true spirit which has some intense flavour. Just add a...

Re: What is everyone drinking?

Decanted a bottle of my single malt which has aged for 10 months on French Oak and after the 4 sniff test man this is one nice drop, decanted down to 84% proof so after work tomorrow I will love a few drinks to end the working week.
