Re: Teased and stretched SS scubbers

Cross post from my column debugging thread. I just repacked the column, managed to double the amount of scrubbers in it. I stretched them out differently than shady's picture. I stretched them in width and length. After stretching I can push more watts into the boiler and now run my 3" column /...

Re: 3" x 80" boka(ish) build

Hmm, am I using the wrong word? Its the copper twisty thing (condenser) with the cold finger up the top that you use for CCVMs. The still is LM. Yeah I stretched them out first, then smacked them with a rubber mallet into a small circile thing then stuffed them in the column.

Re: 3" x 80" boka(ish) build

Cheers, appreciate the feedback. Same output rate. It might be a limitation of the boka(ish) design but even slowing down the output rate it doesnt increase the abv.... Its crazy wierd... Next run I will break out the CCVM attachment and see what happens next time. I like the chinese boka(ish) becau...

Re: 3" x 80" boka(ish) build

Just repacked the column, managed to double the amount of scrubbers in it. I can now run it at 100% (from 3600kw to 4400kw) and it went from 92% to 93% output... I didnt pack it crazy tight, I used a 3 2/5" (100cm) template and hammered it with a rubber mallet and then had to squish it back dow...

Re: 3" x 80" boka(ish) build

Harry used to talk about a 10/1 RR. Is that what you are doing? I had to google that one! I am not that much of a purist, I am simply going as high as my ceilings allow. Cool idea though. Some slightly better close ups. IMG_20200208_134457.jpg IMG_20200208_134821.jpg n.b. the product output is PTFE.

Re: 3" x 80" boka(ish) build

Thanks for the ideas! I havn't tried it slower, I read that a 3" can do 1 gallon an hour so I aimed at that. Its good to have goals right? I enjoy tweeking it and learning, so far its been a proper boka and a ccmv and now the boka(ish) design as well as growing from 2" x 36" (90cm) to...

3" x 80" boka(ish) build

The 15 gallon (50 liter) boiler was inspired by Still It's build, it has 2x2200w at 240v. A 2" triclamp connector for the column, a 4" fill hole, a thermometer and a tap. The column is 80" (200cm) high plus the boiler and has 51" (1300mm) of packed stainless and copper scrubbers....

Re: My first molasses rum

Horses seem to get fed molasses, find a pet / feed store that supplies people in jodhpurs and riding crops. I got 20 liters for $25 or something crazy cheap, there was no sludge when I clarified it. N.b. I just did my first rum run without checking the hydrometer at all, totally fubared it and got n...

Re: Fermentation kit

Something worth thinking about is how your going to move your liquids around. For example an 8 gallon (30) liter fermenter I can lift. So they sit on the garage floor until they are ready to be racked. I then pick them up and put them up on top of a bench so I can use the built in taps, a hose and g...

Re: A choice between Stills

I have had a variation on #3 but I built a keg boiler to save money. Imho #3 its just easier to use than an LM still which #1 and #2 are. On the other hand #2 would be better for stripping runs as that 45cm (18") shotgun condenser is a beast.

Re: Cornflakes whiskey

I finally got to the end! These are the salient points I got out of the thread with a focus on Odin's comments: Crush the Cornflakes (with your foot?!), use 500g... or more 750g / 1kg for extra flavour. Cook the cornflakes in simmering water for 30 minutes. Let it cool. Add water and replace some of...

Re: Counterfeit alcohol possible cause of mysterious deaths

When I was last active on this forum, 6 or 7 years ago, this was a big issue for Aussie tourists (an other nationalities obviously) in Bali. Several deaths and some very ill people. I went to bali around that time and purchsed some vodka from the local corner store. Got it back to the hotel, smelle...

Re: New Player

Welcome, a keg still will make enough product for personal consumption. For me the diameter of the column is what I changed on my second still to cut down production time. Good luck and be safe! Cheers, your name sounds familiar. I have already planned out the replacement column and even sourced a ...

Hello everybody, I did a favour for a friend and in repayment he gave me a homemade bottle of Gin. It was the best Gin I had ever tasted. I've drunk a lot of Vodka and Gin and dabbled with cocktails. So a lot of research, still it the you tube channel and here we go. One 15 gallon keg, a whole bunch...
