Re: Gin Hydrosol
This is a hobby. Reading the responses above, is what makes this hobby less fun. When you reply to someone on these posts who are asking genuine questions, you should think, "am i adding value to help this person move forward". Telling me someone is an idiot, doesn't give me any instructio...

Gin Hydrosol
So I follow on youtube Barley and Hopps, and he is usually pretty great. A mix of years of experience as well as some chemistry behind distilling. He recently did a gin from making a hydrosol. I'll summarise what he did and then ask if anyone has tried this. He made the hydrosol by adding 35g Junipe...

Re: How to do individual botanical “sample” runs?!
Ok, so I read this whole thread and I think it almost touches bases on what I am thinking/looking for, so if it does not, please direct me if possible, to some good reading for me. I have been reading a lot lately about boutique gin places now doing a similar thing that my wine maker friend does whe...

Re: Brewzilla/Robobrew with DIY controller
So I have the digiboil which is similar to the brewzilla. I unscrewed the base to check out the wiring to see if it matches the same description as above and I think it is slightly different. Would love some advice on turning this into a glorified kettle. Pictures attached. 20200926_155740.jpg 20200...

Re: Digiboil 65L
I just spent an hour googling how to do this, no success, I also did a search for digiboil, smarts, disconnecting... no luck. Not sure what you are referencing here but if you have a link, that is always appreciated. Kegland and every other stockist is out of the power controller. Might call my spar...

Re: Digiboil 65L
Thanks for this. So I did an initial run on 2500w turned on. Once the temp started to rise I turned off and kept only 1000w switch on. It still turned out so crap. I think this is no good for distilling. I did two runs. I have a regular 50l keg with a 2200w element in it. I used that as a reflux and...

Digiboil 65L
Hi there I have been racking my brain over this and cannot find much information at all. I recently bought from Kegland in Melbourne, a digiboil 65L. Link here: https://www.kegland.com.au/65l-alcoengine-copper-pot-still-bundle.html I have contacted the company with no luck on getting advice on what ...

Re: Floral notes in Gin and advice in general
Jasmine is equally troublesome if not moreso. Subtle, subtle, subtle! ... You're chasing subtle chimerae of flavors with your rose and jasmine! Got fresh flowers? No? You'll need a few pounds I reckon. One approach to trying to make such subtle notes pop is to distill them by themselves and then wa...

Re: Floral notes in Gin and advice in general
What is the base spirit you use for making gin? How clean (cuts wise) is your spirit before using it for making gin? What kind of cuts do you make on your gin run? Base Spirit is a neutral I made from TPW recipe on here, run through a reflux still at 98% ABV. I think you hit the nail on the head, m...

Floral notes in Gin and advice in general
Hi everyone I have been playing around with Gin, whiskey, and brandy now for a year. Honestly, i get so lost in all the information on here that my head spins every time I come here to read on a topic :P I have an alembic pot still for making my gin. I have a nice little red book that I document eve...

Re: Rhubabb & Ginger Gin
So I did this last month based off barley and Hops youtube and got MANY rave reviews from mates. BUT I used only 1 litre jars, and he looks to use a 2L jar, so I just halved it all, including the time, as he had his sitting for a whole month and mine was more than done after 2 weeks. The key is to t...

Help with Orange Liqueur
Howdy First post on here asking for help so I hope this is the right place for it. I have an alembic Pot still, 20L with column. My best mate owns a winery and gave me 200L of Chardonnay. So I followed steps to make an Eau De Vie. Then I followed the following recipe to make an Orange Liqueur: Cut 6...

Re: Hello from the Macedon Ranges
Thanks everyone for the welcome! There are a few local gin distilleries, small ones, in the Macedon ranges. I have tried out a recipe and I think mine may be better than what they sell :P I may be biased though. @The Baker, my folks own a winery on the murray near Rutherglen. Great place to be! Can ...
