Re: Rum spirit run -speed
Hey Crow, both plates are copper SD Procaps, I did put it in full reflux for 15 min before pulling heads, not sure at the time what the hell I was doing but as it worked well for vodka previously so It was worth a shot. You mention 91% as possibly sacrificing a little flavour (which I was worried ab...

Re: Rum spirit run -speed
Hi guys,
Thanks for such a quick reply,.
SB with your 4 plates, about what sort of takeoff rate do you run at
NZChris Yes lots of copper in the strip runs, I assume it’s tails smeared when the output hit 6 lt hour.
Both plates in the still are copper for the spirit run

Rum spirit run -speed
I collected enough (40% abv) stripped wash (140 litres approx) from all molasses ferments to finally make a decent attempt at filling my new 28 litre barrel with hearts rum.(when it gets here) I am using the 2 plate 4” reflux set up as per the picture, hopefully keeping as much flavour as possible I...

Doh!
Been doing this for about 5 years now and just made the biggest rookie mistake ever..... Completed a 50 litre strip of 7th generation rum wash and wondered why tails were in so early. Persevered and stripped down to zero to get only 2/3 normal strip volume. Pulled still down to find I did not tighte...

Hey OVZOldvine Zin wrote:Clean setup there What, love all the stainless but I hope that you have a bit o copper placed in the vapor flow.

Took me a long while work out the importance of copper but the 6>4 reducer at the bottom of the column is filled with these. It appears to have reduced puking too.

Re: Ebay Stainless Drums
I just checked out the one I have on loan to store stripped rum wash and is seems pretty good. Don’t know if they are on eBay though but the drum is apparently 304 SS and 1.4mm thick with welded top and bottom no rolled edge or glued seams. According to the owner cost was about $500 which is pretty ...

Re: Hello
Welcome what . Last I heard of you , you were making a column on a horizontal keg boiler . How’d it turn out? Hey yummy Yes finished that a while back but someone wanted it more than I did. Re: Just Post a Pick of your Rig
Though a pic or my current set up for rum stripping runs might be good.
Please note I am aware of and support the 30 gal boiler limit, the 44 gal drum in the pic is borrowed and used only for low wines storage until I can get a few generations going and I can afford a barrel.
