Naw, I am in NSW...! Seriously - I heard that's why koalas look so sleepy all the time - they are literally on a constant low-level stonedness  Not too much wood I could go hacking up around here, but up at my father's property I'm sure I could get a hold of a few nice chunks of just about anyt...

I got an aquarium pump from eBay (A shop in queensland I think) for around the $30 mark, which works just fine in my reflux jacket condenser (Keeps the condenser room temperature or so throughout the whole process)

I am wondering what would be the effect of using an alcometer on a sugar only wort pre-distillation? Theoretically there is no sugar: only water and alcohol (and only traces of other chemicals) so shouldn't it give us a reasonably accurate, or at least ballpark figure? That is, unless all the dead y...

Other types of wood for flavouring/aging?

I just saw the other thread about the guy wondering if he had an oak, and got to thinking about the potential to use other woods for different flavours. It's not something I've heard anything about before.... Eucalyptus trees that are so abundant around here I believe would be interesting to experim...

Nice job!

Looks like a nice little setup there.

I'd like to build a pot-still set just like that to compliment the reflux at some point.

Let us know how the stuff turns out.

Sambuca is one of my favourites so it was one of the first things I tried. I tried soaking star anise, a few peppercorns and some cinnamon stick in 40% for about a fortnight. Should have used far less peppercorn and cinnamon, but they added a nice spicey flavour to otherwise extremely close sambuca ...

Sounds good. Do you run the thing on a stove top or what?

I've been thinking of putting something similar together for stripping runs, whiskey and schnapps and such.

Fuel alcohol eh? You converting an engine or something? Also been thinking of doing that, out of interest!

Fourway by transient do you mean they come and go, or are easily diminished through aging? I'm not particularly "worried" about it, just wanted to know if that kind of thing is normal or desirable. I gave it to my dad the other night and he liked it though said the only thing wrong with it...

Whiskeyrama!

Bonjour y'all! My most recent run, I decided to try for a whiskey. Primary reason is that I wanted to expand my experience and also my dad's birthday is coming up and he don't mind a drop o' that! (me neither actually, funny that) I did just 4Kg of crushed, malted barley. I boiled it up in my still'...

Thanks for the nice welcome, guys. I see things are nice a laid back around here! 8) {possum} The way it works is that the stuff comes off at the temp where the MIXTURE boils. Since you have a reflux, its possible you were returning some alcohols to the boiler. A big fat "AH" from me :D I ...
