Re: My first semi homemade still
Advice taken. Reply was trying to justify my design. I see the error in it.
But a question, is that why the distillate taste, or rather feels, hotter than when ran minus the thumper?

Re: My first semi homemade still
Good point, I went with a 1 inch jacket over a half inch pipe hoping the added volume of cold water would make up for the shorter length.

My first semi homemade still
16518.jpeg Well, my crack at it. Actually found a site to sell me a 2.5 gallon keg with sankey. Ran 1 run through, after cleaning, and it worked. Flavor is a little hotter, feels like sugar burn, then when ran without the thumper. Maybe an 8 gallon pot the cuts are harder with a thumper. But knowin...

Has anyone tried this Maltoferm® Ultra Sweet Powder?
Playing around on internet and found a malt powder that is made from corn and barley that is described by the company as Extract of corn and malted barley; sweet, malty; 65% sweet as sucrose. Was thinking it could be used in place of all grain. I have read all the posts on malt extracts and sugars, ...

Re: Fruit or botanicals on top of copper mesh in a column
It was "teekane" brand magic apple. Two bags on top of one roll of copper packing. Just a faint taste and aroma. The wash was corn syrup apple juice and water. Just messing around so I didnt write the exact measurements. Didnt take a gravity reading. Only got 2 pints of hearts out of 5 gal...

Re: Fruit or botanicals on top of copper mesh in a column
If anyone is intrested, I ran some with herbal apple tea bags set atop the copper mesh. It imparted a good bit of flavor, and I am assuming not alot of tannins in this particular herbal tea. All in all, I may use try some other herbal teas in the future.

Re: Fruit or botanicals on top of copper mesh in a column
Thanks for the replies, I just always thought the copper mesh could act like a gin basket. Maybe use items that don't break down when heated, like coconut. Seems like a little more thinking to be done on this.

Fruit or botanicals on top of copper mesh in a column
Hello, after search for 1/2 hour, I could not find anything on this. I am thinking of tightly packing my column with one roll of copper mesh (Brewhaus 8 gallon with 2" column) and then placing diced apples on top. The total would be a foot of apples. I am just curious if this has been tried, an...

Hello, not a newbie distiller but new here
Hello I am on the East Coast. I have a 8 gallon Brewhaus and a 15.5 gallon keg getting finished up. I have been silently reading the site for awhile "until my eyes were bleeding then I wiped them out and read some more". I have been distilling almost weekly for a year. I will post a recipe...
