What's this?
Few months back I finished up two twenty inch sections for a CCVM column. Well today I got around to doing the vinegar run. After I shut down I washed everything in warm water and then run a rag through the column. What could this be on the rag , is it the natural patina? The column was made with ne...

Re: sweetfeed whisky
I have had some that had soybean and vegetable and it had a slick surface when done. I could not notice a whole lot of difference in that and those that didn't but I still wouldn't recommend it.

CCVM packing?
I'm rolling up some copper mesh to finish my CCVM. Since this already came in relatively clean do I need to run this through the vinegar run and the sacrificial run or is just a sacrificial run OK?

Re: CCVM coil help, finished with pics
Raising it above the point in your first pic will have little if any affect, just give yourself a little bit of slack, maybe 1/2", to be sure. I use a dimroth so there is a considerable difference when I switch which side is in or out. Water going in on the outside of mine means I need a lower...

Re: CCVM coil help, finished with pics
Just a few more questions and then I think I'm done. Well this morning hooking up the water lines to the condenser and I wanna make sure I have enough line to be able to fully operate the condenser. Is there any reason I would have to raise the condenser pass the 50/50 split in the picture? Other th...

Re: CCVM coil help, finished with pics
I picked up the last pieces of the puzzle this morning. At least I hope I did. I couldn't find John guest fittings so I used shark bite. Does anyone see any problems with using Polyethlene tubing? It's not going to be in the vapor path.

Re: CCVM coil help
I come off of the discharge on the PC and Run A-line to the RC and then discharge from the system completely? Don't get on me too bad because I know I need to do the research and I am willing to do that. That's the way I run mine, water into PC, from PC to RC, RC out to drain, adjust flow at input ...

Re: CCVM coil help
only thing left is to figure out what I'm I doing for the water supply connections and a valve to run it. Depending on what pressure you have , you may not need a valve . On my 2” VM ,I use a 300w submersible pump and its just connected up with no valve . The flow through over 5metres of 1/4” is en...

Re: CCVM coil help
I think just a little bit of fiddling with the coil placement inside the outer coil and everything will be good.

Re: CCVM coil help
I don't think I did too bad for my 1st condenser coil. The coil is about 8" long and I left the tails 12" or longer. I tried using the Spring binder with no salt or anything in the tubing to start with and that didn't go over very well. So I packed the tubing with fine sea salt and everyth...

Re: CCVM coil help
The plan was to follow HookLine's PDF file. Which was to wrap the inner coil around a length of pipe and then slide another piece of pipe around that and wind the outer coil. A few months back I had planned on doing this and somehow got side tracked and it didn't get done. At that time I had already...

CCVM coil help, finished with pics
Well I think I'm gonna start on my reflex coil for my CCVM. I have settled on a double wound copper quarter inch diameter coil.. I already have some sections of 2" made up but I have a question about what length would be better above the tee. I already have a piece that is 6 3/8" long but ...

I found a hair removal wax warmer for 10.00 US. I didn't think it would work but I was proven wrong. One side has copper wax and the other is black.

Re: Hot wax machine for bottles
I finally got around to testing the wax machine. I have to say it's not too bad, I didn't think it was gonna work but I guess the proof is in the pudding. Not bad at all for something I got at the flea market for $10. So if you're looking to buy something like this they can be found on Amazon it's j...

Re: Hot wax machine for bottles
I got as much of the old wax out as I could. I dropped in some copper colored bottle wax to see if it would work and it seems to be melting. I will report back after I finish cleaning net and add more wax to see how it does.

Hot wax machine for bottles
Well I think I might have made a mistake I was at the flea market today and I saw this hot wax machine Hey goes up to 80゚ Celsius. The bottle wax that I have currently said That it's best used between 250 and 275 Fahrenheit. Well 80 C is I think a 172 Fahrenheit. So I have a question is there a way ...

Re: Pugi's Rum or "Pugirum"
I took about a gallon and a 1/2 of white spirit and made it just like the recipe. The only difference that I made to some of this is I added coconut flavoring and made a pineapple coconut rum. I also added a little bit of caramelized sugar to add color. 33591D56-F916-4D96-962C-7BCEDD5F1693.jpeg DAFF...

Damn, those look nice! Thanks, I'm still working on the correct temperature for the wax because I'm getting a lot of air bubbles. In case anybody over in the States is looking for bottles I just run across a deal at Hobby Lobby. They're having a sale on "craft glassware" it's 50% off. I p...

Well it's time it's been almost 7 months and I've got to get it ready for the holidays. I would have never thought that a few extra months would have made such a big difference in this spirit. I'm gonna get started a whole lot earlier next year and maybe it can be even better.

OK just to answer a few of your questions, You do want to and air/o2 to the wash before you pitch the yeast. I don't usually add a heater but I have wrapped my fermenter up in a blanket to maintain a higher temperature. I've just heard too many horror stories of heaters failing and ruining the wash....

Re: CCVM reflux coil questions
For the sake of not cluttering up the forum I've got a question that I want to ask. I'm in the process of doing the reflex coil for my CCVM. I already have the column made it's 2 sections of 2" copper 20" long. I need to do a cleaning run with the copper and the coil. Would it be OK to Shu...
