Re: Running reflux column power question

I won't listen to George again :) New video about filtering is up, btw :) My tools can go only to 70abv, 70-up was broken during transportation :( I'll give an update when new one arrives. Took the result, diluted to 40abv, and did smell test next day. Zero flavor. On par with commercial neurals. I'...

Re: Running reflux column power question

So I did run it at 1700W and WOW! It was a pleasure to see this thing working as intended. Held it for 15 minutes in full reflux and slowly decreased the water flow. Temperature stabilised at 77.5C and stayed there for 2 hours. Compare this to "low power mode", when temperature was increas...

Perfect! Thank you for your advices. Will try today and report back.
P.S. Your answers mean using PID in such setup is meaningless. Jorge is wrong :)))

Running reflux column power question

Hehehy! After trying to make gin with store bought neutral I moved to making my own base :) Got a column like this: Column.jpg Packed first part with copper mesh and did trial runs. Everything runs fine, but the question I can't answer is what power to run it. Using induction heater 2000W + 40L boil...

Re: Odin's Easy Gin

Why do we use 43% to macerate? Would it be better to do it in 92%-96% and after dilute with water before distillation? Thinking behind - the stronger it is - the better solvent it becomes = more flavor extraction.

Re: Odin's Easy Gin

And chemical question - why distill is crystal clear, but diluted to 40-45 becomes beautifully milky?

Re: Odin's Easy Gin

Let's say it's for me :) Will the taste differ if I dilute 45% vs 70% gin with tonic?

Re: Odin's Easy Gin

Hi Odin and guys! Chiming in just to say thank you for the work you have done. I'm hooked, my friends are hooked too now :) I started with low expectation, but even first batch came out super tasty, and I can't stop making it now :) P.S. I actually had a question, but don't remember what it was. Bac...
