Re: What'd ya'll make today?
Brewed up a partial mash Franziskaner kit since I had an empty keg slot since Xmas. It's in my 6 gal Torpedo Keg pressure fermenter. Did a sugarhead on the 'spent' grains to make a small batch of whiskey! I have a just over a liter of product oaking on this same process from the Blue Moon clone I d...

Make your cuts by flavor and aroma.
The foreshots or the heads are not any more poisonous than the other fractions.

Didn't make anything new, but finally dumped and botted a 5 gallon barrel of bourbon.
Made it to the two year plus a couple days mark.
I refilled the barrel with Purple Barley Whiskey.
The bourbon is pretty good.
Smells pretty fruity.
Carmen and vanilla as usual, some tannin.

If the vapor tube doesn't go below the surface of the liquid in the "thumper" then it's more of a slobber box to catch puking. Still useful but will not increase abv much if at all.

It burns easily.
So it's difficult to cook, mash, distill on direct heat without burning.
Steam is your friend.
Or a double boiler or jacketed setup.

Hmmm... You guys have got me wondering if I should use a barrel for a third fill.
It had bourbon for about 18 months,
Rum now for going almost 18 months.
My plan was to fill it with purple barley whiskey next.

Re: What'd ya'll make today?
I finally did the second blue corn mash.
50# blue corn
20# 6 row barley malt
5# honey malt
Voss yeast
I used my steam cooker this time.
Much less stressful than using direct heat.
I'll definitely be doing that again in the future.

I made a sugarhead on the pressed grapes from my recent wine batch, but I did a bad job on the cuts. It's pretty nasty.
Way too much tails.
Multi tasking...
I'm just gonna throw the whole thing in to the feints jar for a future vodka run.

Booze can be a cause of high triglycerides as well. I cut way back after seeing my triglycerides being through the roof. I'm down to a few servings once every week or two. Triglycerides are back to normal now. One benefit is it's easier to stock up when you're not drinking every day. I'm running out...

I aim for 25% low wines, collect the spirit run in jars and try to blend without checking proof, always end up around 60%.

I had a similar experience a while back. I threw some funky dunder in to a big fermentation. Smelled strongly of vinegar after a few days, still sweet though, like a really funky sweet and sour sauce. I started checking the ph, could not keep it up. My suspicion is the acetobacter infection was prod...

My grapes arrived today. Picked them up from the fruit distributor in the morning. I crushed them with my feet :) I got my two year old involved but she was not amused so I finished by myself. I removed the stems and did some more crushing by hand. Finally I sprayed out my garage and cleaned up the ...

My daughter literally starts the day by jumping up and down, with a big smile on her face, until I let her out of her bed. From there she bounces, hops, jumps, climbs, runs and skips all day long. Never walking anywhere. It's incredible to witness. She does sit still to read books, eat, play with pl...

I'm a wuss I guess, I tend to like it around 30-40% for sipping and more like 15-20% for cocktails in the pool or wherever.
I used to like it stronger then that when I was sipping more regularly... but that's about where I like it now.

Stripped about 2/3 of the honeyshine wash.
The honey aroma was really aparent in the tails.
I'm going to do a 1.5 run with the rest of the wash to get the spirit for the port style mead.
About 3 gallons of wash and about 3 gallons of low wines.

I made up some apple pie to drink. It came out pretty good. 2 parts 90%+ likker 3 parts apple juice 1 part sliced apple juice concentrate Good over ice! I ferment and distill on the grain because it's easier for me.
Originally I built a steam still so I could make rye without scorching it, but now I use steam for corn mashes too.
I don't really do malt only mashes but I would probably follow the same process of I did, because it's easy for me.

But yes, hospitals where I live are laid out crazy too.
One even has colored lines on the ground, different colors for different popular destinations to help people find things.
