Toss them, they are spent. All the oils you want are in your distillate.

Re: Absinthe recipe

Just finished my first try at absinthe. I used the 1855 Pontarlier recipe, but scaled down to home use: 5 liters 90% neutral 125 gm wormwood 250 gm anise seed 250 gm fennel seed I macerated for three days. Due to the height of the element in my boiler and not wanting it to be exposed I proofed down ...

Re: Oak ageing - chocolate caramel flavour?

NZChris Perhaps you should be asking the person who gave you the idea to do that? hmmm - this forum - so that's why i'm asking :) There is so much contradictory info on ageing on wood, it's hard to pick one - or which is the right one (sic) Unfortunately there is no right answer because everyone's ...

Re: Novice Homemade Whisky vs Commercial

I think if your goal is to make an absolute carbon copy of a commercial product you may be disappointed. Short of using the exact same process including the years in barrels and blending multiple barrels I think you'll find you might spend years and come up a bit different. I look at it as similar ...

Re: Arto's Easy Turkish Raki

I know this is an older recipe, but I'd like to thank Arto for posting it. I have a dear Palestinian friend who introduced me to Arraki, or holy water as he refers to it. I've thought about giving it a try for awhile and finally got around to making a batch. I made a few changes from Arto's approach...

Re: Inverting, Yeast Types and Turbo (nutrients)

I have used two sugar wash recipes that seem to work reliably and produce a nice neutral spirit. I use a 5 gallon (19l) carboy for my fermenter so scale as needed. I also invert the sugar, I like the end result so haven't bothered to do a comparison. 1st is good old TPW. In a pot combine 2l of water...

Anyone built a pintoshine 6 gallon pot still in Europe?

I'm pretty well set on building one of pintoshine's 6 gallon Kentucky pot stills. That has me on the hunt for sheet copper and I haven't found any in country yet. So I might have to ship some in. I looked at getting some from the states and the shipping doubles the cost :esurprised: Shipping might b...

Re: Welcome from the desert

While illegal in the country, it is in effect tolerated so long as you keep it at home and aren't and idiot being drunk in public or selling your product. The houses are built with what is referred to as a still room and have been for at least the past 40 or 50 years. I have met several home brewers...

Welcome from the desert

I recently took a job overseas and and now have a wee bit of a challenge to procure spirits where I'm located. I've always had hobbies that involved building things. Combine the two and research on the net I came across this forum and pintoshine's copper pot still plans. So I'm reading up on all the...
