Re: Soldering cxc elbows to ferrules
IMO and experience the higher the silver content the easier it is to use......2% is about as low as you can go.....2% will be cheap though. I wondered about that, I had hell with 5% silver solder but I think it was because it was 3mm, I now use the 2mm 2% silver solder like so https://www.bunnings....

Re: Soldering cxc elbows to ferrules
Toto, Go for a 2% silver solder rod if you are going to solder copper to stainless steel. The soft lead free solder will simply pull away from the ferrule when it cools. Whilst I have seen some say they have been able to use the soft solder effectively, I am 51% certain that all it is doing is filli...

Re: Checking my understanding regarding harvesting yeast
The challenge will be the “harvesting” of the yeast. It’s hard to collect the top (light & fluffy) and omit the lower layer(s) which is settled proteins and yeast hulls........ I use a small siphon made from air tubing for fish tanks, clear pvc, less than 1cm, cut an angle on the end so you can...

Wow, you guys are quick, I've got yeast at home, I was just gonna try it without it, it's been less than 24 hours so I'll add yeast when I get home. What's the least amount of yeast I can add to a 5 gallon bucket and still get conversion? A long, long time ago, during the great lockdown in 2020/202...

Hi mate, I am overseas at the moment so I don't have my notes handy but I didn't put a lot of lime peel in, it is powerful stuff, I think I put the skins of one lime and about 4 (maybe 6) cardamon pods which I pounded with a mortar and pestle to release the seeds. Keep the amount of cardamon in line...

You are not the first person to mention the smell of the yeast, it has been described as a range of things including baby vomit (that is what my kids tell me when I have a batch on) but this often only lasts a day or so.
