Re: Analogue power controller
I thought I would give a quick update, given last night I was able to run my still for the first time with a voltage regulator. So… I had ordered a voltage regulator from a New Zealand company, thinking I was doing the right thing supporting our economy. However, turns out they were simply an online...

Re: Cornflakes whiskey
I am really enjoying this recipe! Being relatively new to the hobby, I started with sugar washes to produce clean neutral which I have been playing with, to try a range of gins. I wanted to have a crack at a corn type bourbon spirit and this recipe seemed easy for a newby.... I started a 25l generat...

Re: Analogue power controller
Thanks all, I consider myself pretty handy, however I generally steer clear of electrical builds for safety sake and with time at a premium due to young kids, I think I will go down the purchase of a finished unit path.... I see AliExpress has several good to go 4000w 220v controller options and I f...

Re: Hi! Love the Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
I also have a Copperhead pot still. My first run was on the 24th. Was your flow a drip drip spurt or more of a fast flow drip? In pot still mode the first drip happens at about 70 min mark and the first run about 20 mins later I.e about 1.5 hrs after turning on. On the 1000w setting it runs at a sl...

Analogue power controller
Hi all, I am new to distilling and I am absolutely loving it. I purchased the pot still and reflux head combo from copperhead stills. This still is similar to the T 500, having a comparable boiler, with a copper reflux head and a copper pot still head with Liebig condenser. It seems like a great pie...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
I am currently running a stripping run of my second 25 L birdwatchers wash. The first birdwatchers was used as the sacrificial run on my new still. I have a quick question about what to do with the stripping runs from the turbo yeast packs I wanted to use up. To summarise: I have also made two 25 L ...

Re: Hi! Love the Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
Just finished running my first wash (BW) as the sacrificial run through my new still. It was a 25l wash which I don’t think I fully fermented out due to rookie mistakes... Everything went well and I stopped collecting after 3 and a quarter hours with about 2.75l of distillate saved for cleaning only...

Hello from New Zealand
Evening all, I am new to distilling and have only just received my new copperhead still in the post. It has changeable heads, with a pot still distilling top, which can be swapped out to a reflux head. It’s similar in style to the Turbo 500, but has the benefit of changing easily from pot still to r...

Re: Hi! Love the Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
So.... After a week long ferment, last night the wash appeared to be finished, so I transferred it to our outside shed for the night, thinking the cold air temperatures would knock it down…? In the morning I racked it off to a clean container. Unfortunately, first real rookie mistake… I didn’t check...

Re: Hi! Love the Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe
Listed on trade me, but I purchased it direct from their website as it’s marginally cheaper. I went for the combo as I figure that I will start with neutral spirit runs on the reflux and then grow into rum, gins, whiskey etc on the condenser as I learn and progress. I just finished the vinegar clean...

What is a " shotgun pot still distilling top " ? Hi, sorry I am new to all the terminology..... I have attached a pic of both heads, on the still is the reflux column and on the bench is the pot still condensing head... B84822AC-03ED-4DA4-9887-4CA32E52E1E0.jpeg 6E581F5B-5A8F-4776-A006-260...
