cool, I was thinking of banana rum last night. Thanks for the recipe and results.
Why carbon filter? Do you think 2 pot still runs would do the same to clean up some flavour?

Re: Condenser water cooler.
With a liebig on a pot still I use an 8 gallon fermenting bucket with a cheap aquarium pump for recirculation. On stripping runs Ill typically dump it when it gets too hot maybe 3 times a run and it can go straight into the washing machine which saves water. When Im running reflux, the same condense...

Re: Stray voltage in heated fermenter
its in a bucket now thats inside of the fermentor but due to how humid and wet it is, its still leaching voltage. I removed the heater and will let it ferment without it this time until I can come up with a better solution

Re: Stray voltage in heated fermenter
I happened to have eddy currents (a few volts) with an immersion element for some tests but when I plugged in the ground wire they disappeared. You could consider the use of aquarium heaters .. (a flying idea in my head) I use heating bands outside and they work well and they are safe. Its a cheap ...

Re: Stray voltage in heated fermenter
Iβm curious what makes you believe you have a stray voltage issue? Im not sure if thats the technical term or not I think so but either way I had some cuts on my hand and when I put my hand in the mash I could feel a little tingle. same thing I used to get when I had fish tanks and a pump was leaki...

Stray voltage in heated fermenter
Curious if anyone knows if a little stray voltage from an immersion heater would affect yeast during fermentation. Thinking of putting the immersion heater in a bucket suspended above the fermenter until I can get a replacement. Didnt find any articles on potential affects of stray voltage so curiou...

I haven't heard of using paraffin but one of the millwrights at work said hes used sand before for bending copper pipe. I know about the salt or water method too and I could painstakingly twist my own but I dont mind paying a little more for what I got. Its stainless steel and is going to look aweso...

Re: Condenser Controlled Columns
Well I can attest the powder coated is unworkable. I tried scraping, heating with a heat gun and also wire wheel but nothing worked, the grooves are too inaccessible. I then tried burning it and it burns easy enough but what was left was blackened ashy nastiness and not something you would want pris...

Re: Who is George?
Problem I have with youtube is that even if George or anyone else realizes they are wrong in a previous video, common sense and ethics would say take that video down or revise it and repost but nobody does that because who wants to loose revenue on a video that pays them money whether its right or w...

If you like to learn survival skills from "Survivor" then you will likely want to learn how to moonshine from "moonshiners" as they are one in the same - Reality TV garbage.SpeakEasy wrote:I've never seen an episode... Is it worth watching?

If it doesn't peel off easily by hand then an overnight soak in a bucket of heads should loosen it up nicely.

Re: Questions after first CCVM run
Ill add in my observations here because I as well just somewhat completed my first ccvm run. To note, my reflux condenser is pretty red neck until the CSST comes in next week. I literally hand bent kind of like a cold finger twisted up some 3/8 copper I had and ran an old aquarium pump off it. Lots ...

Nice work Bigbrew [emoji106] You almost got me wanting to build one of them just cause it looks so easy! Re: Condenser Controlled Columns
Wow! I'm building a CCVM still now (50l keg and 2" column), and this is BY FAR the easiest, coolest thing I've built so far. Took about two minutes! Fits nice and snug in a 2" pipe, but I'll add some copper scrubbies as well. My coil from tip to top coil is about 11". I got my CSST h...

Re: Condenser Controlled Columns
72 inch 3/8 OD will apparently twist up to make a coil 11 inches from the bottom of the condenser to the top of the top coil and fit a 2 inch column. Thats what's pictured in the pic on the bottom of page 8. I'll be going the same route. My condenser needs to be similar. 10 inches from the top of t...

What length of CSST should I order for a 2" column for the RC? 1/2" x 48" should be good? Only have a 6" extension ontop of the T. Whats the distance from the top of your extension to the bottom of your offtake? That is the more important measurement. With the 6" extension ...

Re: (last ever) turbo wash- Carbon not Clearing
I never clear my washes, they all go in the pot soon after fermentation finishes. Sometimes I leave them for a few days in a cool spot to sediment out a little. I find it makes little difference to the finished spirit. I prefer to add as little unnatural stuff to my washes as possible. I stopped cl...

Distilling is legal in New Zealand, but I would never wear a T-shirt promoting distilling. gday, my CCVM uses a 50 L beer keg boiler with a 2200W element on 240 AC. It has a 120 cm column packed with stainless steel potscrubbers. I get 95% ABV (corrected) at 1.2 L per hour with the boiler running at no more than 6.5 Amps. The limiting factor is how much vapour flow the packing can sustai...

Re: CCVM build input
3β copper will cost 3 times as much as 2β. 3β stainless is 50% more expensive than 2β. But with an 8 gallon boiler, the production rate advantage of 3β is only marginally of value. The 2β will produce high purity with a shorter column (1 meter/40β is advised) vs the 3β (which would require 50β to 6...
