Re: Hydrogen Peroxide for Aging

Similar experiment from 2017 for reference: https://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=66586 Cheers! -jonny I just read that thread and it was interesting. I am not too nervous about putting H2O2 in my drinks since I used to drink a few drops of food grade 25% H2O2 in water periodically as a h...

Re: SBB's All Molasses Rum Recipe

Well I made my cuts as best I could and put it on some white oak. I am looking forward to finding out what double pot stilled all molasses rum tastes like in a year or three. It seems pretty good now but obviously quite rough. I have definitely had worse from the liquor store. This recipe made it ea...

Re: SBB's All Molasses Rum Recipe

So far 9.5 hours (3 pots full) in and the last pot is heating up so I should be done some time after 1:00 am and it is looking like I am going to end up with over 4 gallons of low wines from somewhere around 18 gallons of wash (is that the right term for fermented molasses?) at around 28%.

Well just over 9 months later I'm finally running the stripping run on this. 😳 It smells wonderful. Damn Zeotropic  I’ll be stripping a portion next week and then the rest the week after. Will be at 3-4 weeks. Here I thought I was doing great by letting it sit for a good long while to finish b...

I just made some of this with double the chocolate syrup and I used home made vanilla extract and booners casual corn white whiskey that was aged in glass for over a year. It was really good! My wife loved it. I can't wait to see how it tastes after a day or two.

I got around 6' of old scrap 1 1/2" copper drain pipe from a job for free. Its old and nasty but I couldn't bear to throw it out. I don't know what I will use it for just yet.

Re: What is everyone drinking?

I am sipping some of my version of booners that the cuts came out funny and ended up 45% so I said what the heck and aged it that way. My step dad wrote the label and forgot to put the date so I don't know how long it has been aging but it is sure getting good. I honestly didn't know if it would be ...

Re: My Modular still.

I thought it would be a great idea to use a weldless bung and braze it on but it had far too much thermal mass and the joint cracks when it cools. Back to the drawing board. Looks like I need to order another standard ferule for the element. This picture is before cleaning up the flux. IMG_20210816_...

Re: My Modular still.

How did you cut your hole and can you give a bit of info on the brazing for those that don't "braze all the time". I am thinking most of the heat has to be on the ferrule, perhaps even heat from the inside? step by step would be appreciated. I used a Dremel with the cute little cutting wh...

It has been very slow progress. Actually no progress for quite a while. I finally got some 45% silver braze and the first couple pieces to start building. Re: Soldering - too tight of a joint?

Thoughts on shims in soldering? I’ve got 2” DWV copper and the SS ferrules I got are noticeably small (they’d be much better sized for L or M copper). I’ve made 1/2” wide shims to match the collar on my ferrule and can squeeze the parts together by hand. With the proper flux and adequate solder, wi...

My first rum is 5 years old today. Still a bit tailsy, but vastly improved since last I sampled it.
That looks good and I like the bottle.
I was sipping some commercial burbon tonight.
I really need to find some molasses to make an all molasses rum.

I didn't have much luck with this recipe until I added some acid to the mash. My water starts out with a pH of about 7.9 according to the water dept and is very hard. to about 12 gal of water, I added about 2 or 3 gal of backset. My pH paper is apparently about worthless, because that didn't look l...

One day I will finish what I started because I am getting tired of the mud puddle when I am not using the water for mashing. Why the hell would you have a mud puddle? An overflow port at the top of the flake stand hooked to a garden hose which drains away from the still site would take care of that...
