Re: goats, butter....and removing paint
Nice score. I don't see anything that looks like paint on the inside, the outside doesn't matter. If the milk isn't too 'goaty', ash cheese is quick to mature and looks great on a cheese board. Thanks.....ash cheese....never heard of it, but it looks interesting! If that is paint on the interior, I...

goats, butter....and removing paint
Evening all, Well, the missus wanted some little lambs for the granddaughters to play with back in the spring, and we started off with a couple of goat wethers. Long story short, my daughter who is raising lambs for meat decided she'd take the full grown lambs in the fall, and we were left with two ...

Once again, and for those of you who are distilling but never actually homebrewed all-grain beer, check in with your local homebrewer's club. They frequently do gain buys by the bulk, where you can pick up cheap malt in large quantities. I store mine is rubbermaid totes.

I like the sound of this compare to the "apple pie moonshine" recipes I have found online, which turn into a liquer at about 20-25%. I'll give this a shot, thanks Bill!

We moved a year and a half ago to a 5 acre acreage, and then a month later I broke my back (crushed vertebrae). Almost back to full strength now, and we have started planting a garden. We are also looking to get into some fruit as well....raspberries, strawberries, and looking at what we might have ...

Shady's Sugar Shine obviously picked up a cold or something. :D 344775229_775675890876873_8993355920709519907_n.jpg ...and not being big on infection brewing, I am assuming from the moon-like appearance this is a lactobacillus infection? Also curious about the orangish spot on the left side? Thanks.

Re: Walks like a duck
I thought a wash may have gone to vinegar. Running it confirmed it. What came off the spout stung my nostrils and eyeballs instantly. I cut power and drained it. It wasn't subtle. Same experience here. Taste of the mash told me vinegar, greed told me to run it. I certainly didn't wait long before t...

Yes, cork will leech colour like any other wood.
I actually don't know of any wood that will NOT leech colour.....even pure white birch bark will leech colour.

Re: ultrasonic cleaner - most efficient size to buy?
Well I decided to pull the trigger on a Vevor 6L (1.5gallon) model. Worst case scenario is that I am not impressed and I end up with a parts cleaner for the grand total of about $125 USD including shipping. The cost of a few cases of beer. Thanks for the constructive comments, appreciate the feedback.

Re: ultrasonic cleaner - most efficient size to buy?
I’ve never tried any accelerated aging process but I always assumed that the ultrasonic vibration sped up the pushing and pulling of the hooch through the wood. Had never thought about the dead cell walls. Stonecutter, I'm sure the slow dissolving and decomposition of the wood contributes largely t...

Re: ultrasonic cleaner - most efficient size to buy?
maybe if you sharpened the wood into little points it would slice into the booze faster too like a wood aging splinter in the big toe of the whiskey Not sure if you're actually trying to be funny here, because if you are you're really bad at it. Now run along, and maybe go find another thread to no...

Re: ultrasonic cleaner - most efficient size to buy?
if you shake the booze fast enough somehow it becomes aged 20 years A little more to it than that, and actually quite incorrect  Basically the ultrasonic sound waves help to break down the dead cell walls of the ageing wood, releasing the compounds responsible for ageing much quick than lettin...

Welcome, same advice as above. Read thrice, buy once.
I was going to say make once but you're a builder....no matter what you build, like all of us you'll start planning the next one during your first run. lol

Re: ultrasonic cleaner - most efficient size to buy?
Thanks Bushman. Any thoughts on that model vs a different size? Would you go larger, smaller, wider, taller, etc? Do you immerse jars, or just liquid straight into the reservoir? (something makes me think jars are safer, but possibly less efficient?) Lots of info out there (and thanks for that link)...

ultrasonic cleaner - most efficient size to buy?
Evening all, So I'm thinking of dropping some money on an ultrasonic cleaner, after just missing out on a used 15l one nearby. For those of you who have used one of these, is there a certain size you would purchase instead next time? Would you purchase one size over another, larger or smaller? My pr...

Making coffee wine is not new, there are plenty of recipes to be found on the internet.
In fact, searching "country wine recipes" to convert to distillate would be a very decent 3am rabbit hole to go down.....

Cool experiment, definitely proves for me you can't tell by looks and colour. Hell how cold does it get there......that problem doesnt exist in my neck of the woods. I can confirm that up here in Canada it gets cold enough that the butane in a lighter will not evaporate and rise up to the sp...

But I don't have any complaints from anyone that's tried it and I can't go back to store bought. Per feedback I've heard from people who spend serious money on bourbon, I've had mine compared to eagle gold and pappy. I can only personally attest to it being superior to willett reserve. I'm a long w...

Re: Questions About Sugar Wash Results
If you're making a "top notch AG bourbon" for two years now, you ARE new to distilling. But good for you if you think your product has been coming out nice, that's seriously great. If you can make a good AG, then a sugar wash should not be an issue. Check out Shady's Sugar Shine: https://h...

Re: Braided stainless sleeve - is this the right stuff?
I assume this is to let the steam out without plugging. In a lautering tun it is the opposite, let the water through will keeping the fine grains in the tun. For that many home brewers by a SS wrapped water hose, something like this https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-3-4-in-FIP-x-3-4-in-FIP-x-96-...
