Re: Determining Tails from a T500
I struggled with this also . I've been distilling for two years now and am just now perfecting my cuts. There is some great info on making cuts in this forum. Also the YouTube channel still-it has a great video called making kickass cuts . For me I just collect small amounts on small half pint jars ...

Re: Vinegar run
I usually get the store bought distilled white vinegar and mix 1-1 ratio . Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe store bought vinegar is like 90% water and 10% acid. So if yours is 35% , might try mixing it 3-1 ratio . 3 gallons water to 1 gallon vinegar . Perhaps even 4-1 ratio.

Re: Upgraded from airstill to 8g pot still have some questions?
Congrats on upgrading to an 8 gallon pot still. I am working towards upgrading myself. I have a 5 gallon still kit that Ive been using for a year now but am working on plans to build a 8 gallon still. I also want to reiterate the importance of not leaving your still unattended. I am very new to the ...

Re: Cheap mini barrels & hinge-top/mason jars
I use the hinge top jars and just wrap the gasket in plumbers tape. Works great , I wrap like three layers and it seems to work but I wouldn't trust them to be air tight. I don't use for long storage periods either, just for holding low wines until I do spirit run . Somewhere on here there is a link...

Re: my first Rum
I used a 5 gallon copper pot still. When you find some cheaper molasses, make a decent sized ferment (three or four charges) and strip it all down so that you have enough low wines for a spirit run. I've wanted to try stripping and spirit runs. Unfortunately I have laws that limit how much I can pr...

Go to a feed store next time and pick up some blackstrap for deer and hogs. Way cheaper. π± Valid comment but does depend on where he is. e.g. No feed grade available anywhere near me. But yeah, the price is still extortion. ... and their rum recipe calls for honey... I live pretty much in mid...

Welcome and have fun with your new hobby . I know I'm fairly new here but here is my 2 cents. I have learned a lot from both channels and have found some info George gives ...

Re: looking for filtering option ,not charcoal filtering
Coffee filters work for me. Inexpensive and disposable. If one filter plugs (with oils or solids), itβs easy to pull it and use another one. ss Damn ,thank you . I feel like an idiot, lol . I did not even think about that . Awesome I'll give it a go . Thanks a bunch . I knew this was an amateur ques...

looking for filtering option ,not charcoal filtering
When I'm collecting my distilet little fibers get in my jars and I am curious what other people use to just filter these fibers out so I don't have things floating in spirit . I also have same problem filtering to remove oak chips out . I have been using a charcoal filter to accomplish this. Cheese ...

Re: Spirit gets cloudy after adding water for dilution
I'm new to this hobby but have ran into this problem before . You more than likely have tails in your spirit . Something about the solids in the tails when mixed with enough water will become visable . At least that's how I understood it when I had same problem . Try to make smaller cuts during dist...

Re: 10 gal run?
My experience with a 5gallon wash at 1.090 gravity yields close to half a gallon . So assuming your target is 1.090 you should get close to a gallon . Being new to this hobby we have to realize there are so many variables that go into this process . Your question is missing some valuable information...
