Re: No Mash No sugar

Good to know. I should have plenty to put some away for that long. Hard to stay out of it sometimes… but I am starting to build enough stock to save some back for longer time. Yeah, I'm with ya. It's been said many times on this site: patience is the hardest thing to put into a bottle... But that's...

Re: No Mash No sugar

I just did a stripping run of a batch of all corn/angel, so I should be able to compare side by side. I did one of those also. It was super cheap coarse corn meal from Restaurant Store. Also did a sugarhead with it. Be patient! (unlike me...) It really turns the corner & gets good after 9-12 mo...

Re: No Mash No sugar

Anyone have feedback on using mini wheat breakfast cereal as the wheat component of a wheated bourbon recipe and YLAY? I have seen a few posts about angel’s ability to ferment cereal and had some success getting good flavor on sugarheads with cereals (DWWG, Odin’s All Bran) with DADY, but didn’t se...

Speaking from N. American-centric basis here: +1 to the DIY comments above. If you have the skills, or are buddies/mates with someone who does, def go that route. If you go the Digiboil route, I will not shame you. GREAT bang for buck vs other off-the-shelf options, IMO. I did also, and got the 35L/...

Re: Best yeast for a very grainy flavour?

But, when making a spirit, the distillation processes are ultimately more important to flavor development. I use the 1-1/2 distillation method if I really want to “punch up” the flavor in the spirit. Also, when stripping the distiller’s beer, be sure to collect down to 25%ABV at least to get all of...

Did the final blend from the Woolworths Lager kit wash recipe. I’ve kept 9.9 litres (measured) at 54% ABV (temperature corrected). Got to be happy with that! It has now been divided across 3 x 5 L glass demijons, each with 4 pieces of extra-toasted French Oak, to be aged. Looking forward to 3, 6, 9...

The mop wringer was a game changer for me. I can squeeze 40 gallons in about 45mins. I just give it a week or so to clear after squeezing and it goes in for the stripping run pretty clear already. I'm out of "spare space" in my brewing lab. I have consigned myself to the fact that I'll be...

I'll answer, honestly being half ignorant on it, but molasses definitely has unfermentables. I'm not sure the impact of using Gluco amylase or YLAY (as far as being able to convert what is otherwise unfermentable and/or end product's taste).

Re: Yellow Label Angel Yeast & Rum Yeast

FWIW: I use YLAY exclusively for A/G mashing now... mostly because I'm lazy! You CAN do sugarheads on it!!! I would add that using it for rum is a "waste?" Since rum is basically a sugar wash, DADY will do ya fine (and their are others yeasts with ester characteristics). Save the YLAY for ...

It’s really coming on now and has a nice flavor of the parent base without the sugar bite and has a much more rounded flavor. It has really transitioned and is very illustrative of what some time and oak bring to the table. It’s also demonstrating the value of doing a sugarhead on a spent mash. Eve...

Orders less than a pallet are accepted if pick-up is local at Stout Tanks. I checked again today and the checkout system allows it. So if you can pick up in Portland it's an option. After the sale ends then grains will be handled by GW Kent (Michigan I believe). GW Kent sells those reasonably price...

As I understand it, it's not illegal to have a still, or buy/sell one. Clawhammer, Brewhaus, MileHi, etc... would have all gotten busted.

I bought a used Brewhaus rig on Ebay after the seller asked this same question on Reddit. There were a few watchers, but no one besides me bid on it.

AWESOME! Thank you! What "setting" or temp does the digiboil need to be at during the run? Just full blast? As mentioned by Howie above, just set it to "max" or in the Digiboil's case 212F. Vapors will come off starting ~170-180F in the boiler. For my rig, the head temp is usual...
