. Do you have any idea what the price point will be? - Steve Broady It is a rather expensive machine to build compared to an Airstill so I will never reach those sub $100 prices. I intend to build the assembly line from scratch, contacting out only things like PCB assembly and laser cutting/bending...

Re: High Temp Alpha and Full Conversion
So Alpha breaks starch to complex non-fermentable sugars and then the Beta or Gluco breaks them down further to fermentable simple sugars
I got that right?

High Temp Alpha and Full Conversion
as I read and read <wiping the blood from my eyes> I come across information/statements that often make me scratch my balding head one of these came up lately, and I've noticed it more than once. When dealing with enzymes, especially high temp Alpha, the consensus is to have temps not above 190F but...

Thanks Brutal and BlueSasquatch!
I have completed my 3Wall/Inner/Trombone PC
1” main condenser tube
I rotated my 1/2” so it can lay on the 1” 90* feed tube so no torque on the water inlet and have my feed hoses connect next to each other

4" copper tube up here is $90/ft, I am not sure I'll go that route Sheesh. I bought old copper; four feet of four inch, ten feet of one inch and a partly damaged nearly three feet circle of flat copper for ten dollars the lot. Geoff Nice. Up here, NO ONE will resell copper, or any metal (Lead ...

Re: Bubble Plate Still Flooding
Just noticed this post by Larry about a 2.5 incher, surprised at the maximum speed of 1.7.......but remember your talking going down another 1/2 inch in size. The 2.5" plate is not bad at all. It has a single bubble cap design with a fully integrated downcomer. There simply isn't enough real e...

Re: Easy sugar shine with napa cabbage Aka vegan organic vodka
No hate. I sure make my own batches of sugar shine. (I use spent grains from all grain mashes) I'm just saying sugar shine is not "organic vodka" - and run through a pot still twice is not enough to make any decent vodka from my experience (a decent sugar shine tho) and yes, sugar has a b...

Re: Easy sugar shine with napa cabbage Aka vegan organic vodka
I would say most here have tried and moved on from sugar washes - simple and easy maybe, smooth and tasty? Well compared to what? It's at the bottom of the list for me. I wouldn't think a pinch of cabbage is going to change that. also, twice distilled sugar wash through a rudimentary pot still is n...

No, if you read what he said again, you'll see that he washes feed quality grains first then he mills it. I was referring to this: ... Mill it, fill a bucket half full with grain, then 3/4 with warm water. Stir it up with your hand, sift off the floaties and chaf and drain. Then put it in your mash...

Re: Jimbo's Wheat Flour AG Experiment
Boom, if you cook that raw wheat properly you shouldnt have any bacteria issues. It needs to be gelatinized, best way to do that is to pour boiling water over it and let it steep cook for a couple three hours. Temps will be above pasteurization temp in this process, so any bacteria will be killed.....

Have you ever wondered WHY those distilleries strive to grab every last ml of alcohol out of their mash? could it have to do with "Profits" vs "Quality Product"? imagine how good their product would be if they used protocols like some of the OG hobby distillers we have right here...

Hey ShadyLane if you were going to mentor me on building a Dimroth, using a 2" copper (I also have 1.5 flanges/clamps, so could go 1.5" dia) how long a coil do you believe is minimum, and what would be the preferred length staying within a 25' overall 1/4" OD feedstock. single coil wi...

Re: 3Walled Condenser Thought Exercise
I'm a firm believer in experimenting. As they say "there's many ways to skin a cat" For hobby sized stills, a shotgun condenser isn't the best option. The only thing it has going for it, is shortness. And even for that, a dimroth has it beat. That's why 99% of the reflux condensers used h...

Re: Dephlegmator Comparision
in a CCVM that is exactly what you want. The sliding shotgun would act as a valve, just like a sliding coil
lower it over the outlet for 100% reflux, raise it slowly to initiate takeoff

Re: Dephlegmator Comparision
where I live, SS valves are VERY expensive copper is costly enough, trying to save a buck where I can with the internal Deflag, one could mod it with a screw drive to raise/lower it, and it'd block the vapour outlet just like a coil. That was my only point. Some folks find soldering a bit easier tha...

Re: New still build on the way
You would need to solder a ring in the reducer like I draw it in your paint job. That way the reflux doesn't run down on the column surface. if using plates, why would that matter? as long as the condensate makes it to the plate, and NOT falling through the downcomers, it doesn't matter how it gets...

It is funny how sometimes you just get something tuned right, and it simply works!
I have read thicker mashes convert better, but I can’t wrap my brain around that.
Thinner makes more sense to me.
I always use my full volume of water.
