Re: Anybody get any good deals lately?

Received 9, 4", 16 oz. copper disks for $30. Was searching discs for a shotgun, tried all the normal spots but had never heard of ETSY. A guy is selling all sizes of discs and other interesting copper pieces that would be of interest here, even threw quite a few copper extras in with my order. ...

Re: Switch to direct fire, pain in the ass

You need to run 2 tanks into a tee to get the output you want without freezing. That's how I ran propane on my brewery for a long time. Mr. Heater f273737 is a good example of what I am talking about. This is what I need to keep 20# cylinders from freezing and for emptying partially full tanks (cou...

Yep, looks like an air breather tube and a pain to refill without removing the mason jar, though I could be missing something.

Re: Gotta love a keg score

A friend was cleaning out his barn recently and gave me 2 kegs that we drank over 20 years ago as youngsters. Coors style, barrel shaped and look almost new.

He even gave me a third, squat 8 gallon? keg that will be nice for doing smaller spirit runs.

The back set into the next ferment is why Uncle Jesse's Simple Sour Mash is sour but without cooking the corn, seems a lacto infection would be hard to avoid. Your's looks nice and familiar. Re: Enquiring minds want to know.

Even white sugar shine is technically a "light rum", though for flavor you'd want some added panela and/or blackstrap molasses, also beware of foamy oils. Researching "dunder pits" can be scary, but otherwise have no fear of rum. Guessing you've read Bucaneer Bob's thread? https:...

Popping corn for a batch of shine seems a waste of time. I would grind up the kernels to nearly flour and go traditional with enzymes or malt.

Popcorn isn't GMO, so no glyphosate is involved, BONUS!

MCH same here, not a very good year for black walnuts, the late freeze this spring really did them in, same with morel mushrooms.

Looks like I'll be trying this next summer as my walnuts are the size of bantam chicken eggs. Not even round.

Re: Edelmentall Bru Burner vs Blichmann Hellfire Burner?

The Blichmann Hellfire burner has saved me around 15% in fuel per 20# propane cylinder, over my 4 previous turkey fryer burners. The Hellfire is quite stable and low profile, you'll see 55 gallon mash tuns sitting on them. (you can reverse the extending arms for very large pots) Another great thing ...

Is your plan to come off the side of the pressure cooker for the lyne arm? That pressure cooker lid looks pretty busy.

The pressure cooker could hold a nice gin basket someday, if you ever went that direction.

Keep us updated, I like it.

Re: My beginning

Great start. Think I would skip the pressure cooker, looks to be more trouble than it would be worth incorporating it into your design. Is the pressure cooker sealed with a rubber gasket? If so, the rubber would get eaten up by alcohol vapor unless wrapped in layers of PTFE tape. What kinds of liquo...
