Re: Love this stuff!

We made our first single malt and it’s great going to do the Appleton knock off rum soon. Started making oak barrels for them to seal up now have my second batch in oak. It’s a great way to spend some time.

Re: Does the burn test actually work? Hearing that it doesn't

I roll my still temps up really slow and pull the first 400 mils off of a 20g batch that’s more than enough to get rid of the foreshots I have never once had a hang over from my brew. Must be doing something right.

Re: Sweet distillate

When I get a stuck fermentation I rack into another container aerate and re pitch yeast. Works every time, as for the rest, keep working on your cuts until you can taste the difference pull 100 mills per jar and let it breathe once you get a feel for your still it will come naturally.

Filter

Thinking about building a carbon filter out of a 3’ length of 3” copper stuffed with cotton balls and activated charcoal. Anyone have experience building a filter? Do I need to cut my proof down before filtering? Thanks all.

Re: Changing process after taste testing finished product

Still a nube but I have noticed that mine burns the right amount at 100 proof but I did find that it burns less when I do a stripping run with my thumper attached and then re run the whole batch. Idk if that helps but that thumper makes a world of difference in mine..... or is it a placebo?

It has to do with regulating POWER not TEMPERATURE.
Check it out before you go for that.

Thanks for that, George at barley and hops and stillit both run pid. That was what I was basing my opinion on. That and propane is getting costly.

Have been turning out some interesting hooch, first batch was sweet feed, then a sugar wash with pear mash, next was ujssm ...
