Re: What'd ya'll make today?

Drank about 4 fingers worth of my corn/sweetpotatoe/oat whiskey. Its sitting now at 90 proof. I put s bit of water into it. It's less than a week off the pipe and is my 1st attempt at a all grain whiskey ( other than booners I refluxed). Definitely not harsh at all I an can detect the sweet potatoe ...

Re: DIY wood chips

Or, you could do an artificial version of seasoning that doesn't take a couple of years. I do this for raw wood chips and raw, pre-cut sticks. I put the chips or sticks in a 1 gallon container of water and let it soak for about a week. I then remove them to a drying screen and allow them to dry for...

Re: What'd ya'll make today?

1st attempt at AG

12 cracked corn
2lb rolled oats
10lbs sweet potatoes ( some canned some fresh)

In 10 gallons.

Og was 1.030. My mashing may have sucked, used high temp enzymes.

I'm stuck with it but gonna see how it goes.

Just got in how to brew book, and will be refining my process.

Re: Question about bugs

It's dead Jim. I checked and i saw more dead bugs than actual sweetfeed. Looks like they ate themselves to death. The Corn and oats were molded, no bugs thou. I learned a lesson. If your gonna be stupid gotta be tough. Wont leave grains outside again ever. Next time a close to airtight container

Re: 1st Reflux run..kinda

:P Distillate was crystal clear. Got cloudy when I proofed down. Probably the jar.. taste great and clean.

Proofed down a jar after in a different jar...still clear. So I blame the jar.

1st Reflux run..kinda

Good afternoon. Started my 1st reflux again today. Did two stripping runs of Birdwatchers and ended up with 1.5 gallons of low wines.... I forgot the Abv. But I know I added about 3.5 gallons to bring the proof down before refluxing. 1st off. I learned a valuable lesson.......if using Firehouse subs...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe

Did my 2nd strip run. Looks like I have about about 1.5gallons of low wines. Getting to impatient to wait for another stripping run on a new bsch ( I know, patient mans game) I plan on refluxing it. My question is should I let the low wines air out for a few days before spirit3eun? Or eff it and let...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe

Ran my 1st Birdwatchers a few days ago with my new controller from Stilldragon. I initially came here and pulled the trigger because of George, so naturally I had a PID. I've read all the the threads and took heed to what everyone says. Anywho. Man...the speed at which my still was pumping out produ...

Re: What'd ya'll make today?

Did you grind the corn? Finer grind increases efficiency. If it was heated to gelatinization temp, no need to reheat and you may have denatured the amylase since it wasn't hi temp. How warm when you added amylase? Corn was not ground up. I used a 10gallon cooler as a mashtun with a spigot and poure...

Re: What'd ya'll make today?

Experimented with Cracked corn and powdered Amalsyze (high temp stuff is on order) 10lbs in what ended up 7 gallons with a gravity of 1.030......I know its low. I'll mention that I started the project late in the evening so yeah things were not efficent. I was sleeping with Temps dropped to 155F ish...

Re: Birdwatchers sugar wash recipe

I'm in day 16 of my 1st two attempts at Birdeatchers. Checked my gravity a few mins ago and thankfully it will be done tommrow. It's fairly close to 1.000. SG was 1.090 ( I know a bit high) I used 2 separate 5g buckets: one with Fleishmans the other with Red Star. Fleishemans seems to be further ahe...

Hi all, first off I want to say that I have been lurking here for about 3 months solid and another year on and off. And between this site, Jessie,Geoege,Randy and others on youtube I think I have a firm foundation on which I plan to build. I have read the necessary reading and even purchased a book ...
