Re: No Mash No sugar
Following the lead of NZChris, I made CROW mash using 5th generation of UJSSM plus 5kg corn, rye from 5th generation rye bread, wheat biscuit cereal and toasted rolled oats. The corn was blitzed with some UJSSM backset in a blender and added to a 50l Esky with about 15l boiling backset and another 2...

Re: Fermentation finished?
I use Alco Calculator as an App on my phone. English is not the first language of the developer. The titles of the calculations are mysterious but worth a look.

Re: No Mash No sugar
I am very interested in the results of your spent UJSSM run NZC. Angel Yeast Starter worked well for me on rolled barley (my first AG mash). Will soon have multiple generations of UJSSM corn and Odin's Rye Bread residue to be gainfully employed. Could combine as you did with rolled barley. Looking f...

Re: Go to neutral wash?
I started with George's Goo (kale wash) and find it to be very easy, bit slow but makes a good neutral for gin. I don't invert sugar. Boiling sugar and water will have little effect on inversion unless acid is added. Inversion is breaking the glucose and fructose bond in sucrose (crystals). That's w...

Re: coconut sugar is sweet??????
I'm a novice fermenter and distiller but have worked as a sugar technologist for 50 years. Coconut sugar is made from the sap of the inflorescence of the coconut palm. It is in the general class of palm sugar made from different species of palm trees. Just like juice from sugarcane and sugar beet, t...

Oh Joy, Oh Rapture
Yes the first results using OEG have indeed given me joy and rapture. After a lot of reading, I decided that a 2 inch, ccvm column was best for my desire to make gin. Boiler is 35l and gas heated. The column is copper and packed with stainless scrubbies for 1200mm. I have a shorter length of copper ...
