I've found that if you want light rum substitute brown sugar for some of the molasses. Tends to smooth out the finished product.

I haven't looked at the Robobrew specifically but most brewer/mashers control temperature which is perfect for making beer, but for distillation controlling power is required and temperature is not important. I've dabbled with rums and think the wash is where all the flavor comes from (rum flavoring that is) spiced is the easiest but for dark takes time to age the product before flavoring. Thanks for the encouragement I've got quite a few runs under my belt. I'm starting to experiment with the thumper jar 3foot collum and a liebeg condenser mounted on a 15keg. I've been using a pot with a fabricated dome top and alcoine condenser

Lion Brew has several attachment for a keg build and it's easy to adapt a worm to the collum for cooling. Check out ebay.

New to site

I'm some what of a hobbyist and am interested in the proper technics involved in the art. Got quite a bit of experience handed down from trial and error and elders. Not too old for a new or better trick. I've got a potstill with a few mods,dome and collum. Rum and whiskey are my go to .

Interesting read I feel my decision to join the forum is going to be the learning curve I'm looking for.
