Re: Grappa

I do have about 12 carboys of wine from last year and not enough wine rack space for all the bottles so was going to keep the best as wine and distill the rest this year in my grappa runs (less storage space lol)... Looking forward to trying out some of these Travarica variations plus some Sambucca...

Re: Grappa

There's a lot you can do with excess grape spirit. I already have enough brandy aging already, so none of last year's crop was oaked. It makes a great base spirit for Ouzo, Absinthe, some gins, some liqueurs and probably quite a few other spirits as well. It's better than neutral for many spirits t...

Hey Demy, is it a particular type of sage? Are there particular other herbs/blends or just depends? Is this redistilled after maceration?

Cheers!

Re: Grappa

If somebody lives in right region you can make this, it's called Travarica. It's made from Grappa by mixing herbs and leaving them in grappa for 20 days. You can make just out of sage. But it depends on where you live.

Re: 55 Gallon Plum Brandy Project

I just got 120 lbs of large red plums from a friend. I wish to make brandy out of 100 of it. Did I read right? 100 pounds left you with 10 lbs of dry pulp? Also I have all stainless steel so should I add a little copper screening in the column to smooth it out or do I just run with no packing. Firs...

Re: Apple brandy question

I figured out you all are making brandy, we make moonshine here. We drop alcohol content to 20% during first distilling so I get out of two and half 15l buckets of fruit around 10l of alcohol. Then second distill I drop it to 45% alcohol, so when it cools down it drops to around 43%. The point of do...

Re: Apple/pear/grape ferment

You are doing grapes a wrong way. It can be done cheaper. You just need leftovers from wine production. That's how winery's and we at home make it here. Probably winery's in your area don't use leftovers for grape moonshine (Loza/Lozovača). In Italy it's called Grappe. The grapes I got for free fro...

Re: Apple brandy question

I have this Frankenstein grinder. It needs some improvements. But you can make it out of washing machine motor, old boiler. It has four blades on one propeller inside.

Re: Apple/pear/grape ferment

Over the weekend we handpicked around 100 kg of pears and grinded them. Yesterday after a storm, picked 100 kg. Right now we have probably over 700 kg of pears. If more of them falls there is not going to be any place left to ferment them, so probably going to make some juice or jam out of the rest,...

Re: My first still

Well it's not the first distiller, but it's new one. Bought brand new few days ago. It's made by DES Subotica. This is 60l model. Who ever is interested I can post email of the distributor here in Sarajevo who exports them to Europe. He did not mention USA, so you should ask them. https://i.imgur.co...

Re: Hello from Bosnia - region of Rakija

Welcome Sir. We are looking forward to your inputs and recipes. Make pictures! Making alcohol here is tradition passed on generations. It's kinda like neighborhood party. Southern part of the country is famous for wine (Žilavka and Blatina) and tobacco. I live just outside of the city. Older variet...

Hello from Bosnia - region of Rakija

Hello from Sarajevo. We here make rakija/brandy every year.
Our region is very unique in world. It's totally legal to make alcohol at home on mass and sell it without any permit.
We make brandy from everything that can be fermented, even spruce berries.
