Re: Finally achieved a steady little stream on a run!!

Your lynn arm look to be unnecessarily long to me. Iirc length should only be 5x the diameter. I'm probably not remember that correctly, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I will be along in a mo to correct me.

Made a big batch of burnt ends while my mashes finish off… burnt ends? Burnt ends are pieces of meat cut from the fatty end of the brisket, the lean part is the deep pectoral, while these are fattier "point" . Usually bbq'd, grilled or smoked as a whole brisket then cut off after (at least in the U...

I should probably add I didn't tare the scales after weighing the spoon. So the second and third pictures are the weight of the spoon and dap. Thanks SomethingObscure. That's why I don't want to use spoons. I mean, if you make one 10 l batch, a few grams of difference is not much, but when making s...

Re: White Sugar Nutrients Informantion

Sometimes I get annoyed with the whole cup and spoon size thing. In the UK a teaspoon is 5ml (that's what my measure say) or so I thought. But Google informs me that is it is fact 5.91939 that's almost 20% difference. Empty weight.jpg Now I'm never that accurate when measuring DAP. I used about 1 sp...

Re: Big Ass Parrot

As most do I only use mine on stripping runs. So I strip through my home made copper parrot into a 5l demijohn. And never really look at the alcohometer until I'm about 8 or 9 litres in. As stillanoob says also keeps oils out of the distillate. It also give me the convenience of swapping the demijoh...

Re: Which Grain for neutral, or is sugar just fine?

TEddysad’s FFV is from sugar and wheat bran and is very neutral! Why not try a tried & true neutral recipe (as suggested earlier) and compare it against what you have come up with? If it is not to your liking, then start tweaking it. +1. Storm, unless you’re an experienced all grain brewer, trying ...

Sorry meant to ask if there are any disadvantages in increasing take off rate and power and so maintaining purity?

Would I even maintain purity or would the increased vapour speed create smearing?

Re: My first.. Time hitting azeo...

A big thanks for all the advice. I checked the jars abv and sure enough the purity had dropped as I increased the take off speed. So today I watered it down to 40% and reran it. Practice makes perfect. So this time. I ran at full power (8kw) for about 15 minutes ( heat up) then dialed it down to 2k...

Sounds cool, what kind of sintered glass balls are you using? I've only tried scrubbies so far but dont really like handeling them. Do you have a product link? Hi broomstick, It's filter.media, they are called EHEIM SUBSTRAT pro. I ended up using 6litres in my column. I think Bunny tested something...

My first.. Time hitting azeo...

Well I'm still very new to this hobby and learning everyday, I've done 17 spirit runs now mostly rum but one all grain angle yeast(AGAY). And this was my 4th neutral run. Today I got the benchmark that is azeo. Not that it that number means much (especially because I'm sure my alcohometer isn't supe...

If you're desperate to run it Sunday I would let it ferment until at least Saturday night. But if it were me I would let it ferment as long as possible and rack it directly into the boiler.

Just my 2pence.

I presume you mean flour.. Yes I did. Thanks for the info. I just did cuts and blended my first AG using angle yeast, was really impressed with how it tasted. I've got a few rum washes to finish but then I'll definitely make more, maybe I'll do an all barley next time. Cheers SomethingObscure

My own Jackman methol liquor. It take take the tickle out of any cough and warms the sole. Made with 150g of Jackman's methol throat and cough sweets and 700ml of 40% proofed neutral and left until it's all desolved. I actually dishwashed mine at 60* to speed this up. Barley contributes barley flavor. I don't call that an off flavor, but my try at using it with this protocol is not my favorite for drinking as a young white dog. I wouldn't choose barley for a vodka, but I'm not a vodka drinker. Put it through a reflux still and choose your cuts carefully and you ...

It's almost 48hr since I pitched "the stuff" and it's still bubbling well. Most of the husks from the crushed oats are empty and floating.
